Appreciate your comments.

I was there 4 weeks ago and I can tell you this is one outstanding building. The carvings, stained glass and mosaics are unbelievable but, no one photo can show all of the incredible detail. This photo is good but many important details simply could not be captured. Here's my shots of it - a little more detail but still doesn't do it justice.

As long as you asked - cropped too tight. Top is cut off. Right side is cut off. Clone out the building on the left side. I think you should have stepped further back or else use a wide angle lens and waited for the people to leave. Maybe should have waited for dusk (or dawn) in order to add some depth to all that detail. Personally I would like it a bit sharper. The angle you took it from is excellent.
I would also say that you picked a beautiful subject which has a lot of potential.

My two cents: it just isn't a very interesting photo. A beautiful church but there is no atmosphere and no story. There is very little to draw the viewer in. I also agree that it is too tightly cropped. I suggest experimenting. Increase the contrast, try B&W, crop to a portion of the cathedral. You get kudos for asking the question. That's how we all learn.

Thanks for your feedback, I will remember your suggestions. In this case I was on a guided walking tour with my wife and a bus load of tourists. There were only a couple of us involved in photographing the sites, other than iPhones. I was constantly lagging behind and had to run to catch up. Not trying to make excuses but I could not wait for sunset or for the people to leave. Also no tripod, only handheld.
Thank you again.

Here is a cropped portion of the Beautiful Siena Cathedral. I was on a tour with a bus load of tourists, and had to keep up.
Appreciate your criticism.
Thanks

Bear,

This bright stone caused my camera to underexpose but your shot is somewhat overexposed. How did you determine the exposure (auto, man, A, S)? What did you meter on?

Over exposed, hard on the eyes when looking for detail. no one is takeing any pictures or seem to holding cameras. I think I counted three folks holding any kind a camera for a world wide photo walk contest, well I'll leave it there.

I don't like to judge others about there photo's but you asked. I just don't see anything of interest or that holds my interest. To me just another tourist Photo.

Yes, that is a beautiful cathedral. I must have videoed for 30 minutes and then realized that I was still in "standby". While I was there, they were celebrating the 6 month after the horse race. It was impressive to me to see the "marching" band running up the streets while playing up tempo music. And to the comment that the building next door should be cropped out, you have to see the entire scene and you would realize that the adjacent structures are integral to the cathedral. Now you made me want to go back.

Yes I want to go back, and I will, and I won't be with a group of 50+ tourists. That way I can compose a shot instead of clicking and running to catch up to the group. I had to crop as there were fifty people in front of me blocking the foreground, taking pictures with their cell phones.
Thank you for your comment.
