You can't help feel violated!

Last night my friends' apartment was broken into. The place was systematically ransacked.
Among items taken were Sharon's laptop, jewellery and an amount of cash, a flat screen TV and DVD player.
John's coin collection and two small paintings were taken and although his comprehensive Canon camera gear had been shaken out of the bag, to his relief nothing at all was missing.
Jim though, was devastated that his aging and battered Nikon D40 with kit lens was gone along with the dog eared instruction booklet.
Police said it was clearly the work of professionals.

What is really sad is you guys have been disarmed by your government and are unable to defend yourselves or your property. The bad guys really love this.
Sorry, just had to throw this in.
Even if it wasn't intended it's a pretty good hint that insurance coverage just might be a good idea . I write from experience . 50,000.00 $ of replacent for burglarized camera gear . It helped my claim that I had all serial numbers .
shows they had good taste
took the Nikon and left the canon stuff--oh oh going to hear from the canon people now
hope that they get the lappy back know I would freak if mine went missing

Professional thieves prefer Nikon over Canon. OMG! I smell another Nikon vs. Canon thread coming on! LOL
:-D
I suggest that anyone who owns things that you don't want to be stolen, should buy a large gun safe. We have a gun safe that we keep all of our camera equipment locked in. We also keep any expensive jewelry, important papers, etc.
A large gun safe costs less than a nice camera.

My oh my! I am stunned to learn that they have crime in Australia - and on the "Gold Coast" at that. I thought that guns and crime were nonexistent in Australia.
Something fishy here.

Hey Doc ..... any lens that works on a D40 will work on every newer Nikon body .....
It says on page 288 of my D600 User Manual that Non-AI lenses cannot be used with the D600 -- :-( and the D600 is several years newer than the D40.
The truly sad thing is the ones who didn't realise it was a joke and tried to turn it into a political gun lobby crime commentary.
Come on people, lighten up and stop taking yourself so seriously.
I was broken into and robbed of my Cannon DSLR, speed light, 3 lenses, and my bag of many accessories last month. Excuse me if I don't find the humor in your faux anecdote.
A gun being one mor item to be s tolen whn no one's home for the burglary .

Hum, you're taking my words out of context Doc ..... you're correct, non AI lenses will not meter on your D600 ..... but they won't meter on a D40 either .....

His point is that the thieves preferred Nikon over Canon.
The police should be looking for a Nikon fanboy. LOL.
Then the police were wrong. They definitely were not professionals if they took the Nikon and left the Canon.
So John and Jim both live with Sharon?
