I have a new Canon T3i, as I've seen a few others here do also. This camera came an editing program called Canon Digital Photo Pro. Assuming many newbies like me, don't have a clue how to use it. Here are a few resources that I've found.

OK, I just learned that this program is designed to edit RAW images. Like I said, learning curve. Don't think I'm ready to get into RAW yet.

With the DPP program, shooting in raw is the only way to go. If you look at the post I made today titled junk, I shot that on the way home and forgot that I had not changed my wb till I started on home. It was no problem as all I had to do was change the white balance and do adjust the exposure and that was all I done.If you want send the pic or save in another program, go to convert and save select destination folder. You do not need to shoot in raw and jpeg both this way.

You can also edit JPEGs. I typically use this software for sharpening only, though. I find it to have one of the best sharpening processes in any of the softwares I own.

Hi: Thanks for the links. I have a T3i as well. I haven't put that software on my computer, I guess I should but my computer is about the puke. I got to get it cleaned off, then I'll install it. What I need to read up on is what flash to purchase for it. If you have any suggestions on that, I'd appreciate knowing about that too. Again, thanks for the post. Cheryl

Get your feet wet in RAW, it the real world YOURS. When you take and put your images to your PC right then make a copy of that file. One to keep on file and one to work on.
