Just wanted to say that I would have liked to vote on my favourite Album Cover shot in the latest contest but, not being familiar with any of the albums being represented, I would have had to google all the originals. Only then could I decide which one best met the intent. It's a shame that so few were able to enter. Seems like the new rules are not having a very positive outcome.

DebAnn, why don't you just look up the ones that you think you would vote for if they represent the Album Cover adequately? I looked all of them up last night. I opened 2 explorer windows. One with the contest photos, one with google. I then copied the album name from the contest page and pasted into google. It went quickly.

I wonder if most people would only vote for albums that they are familiar with? I would tend to find the ones that look like they are well done first, and then if I wasn't familiar with the album, I would look it up. It would be an interesting statistic. How many people just vote for things that they like or are familiar with, but do not consider the skills used in creating the photo when voting.

I'm with DebAnn, even with 25 entries; that is more time than I have to goggle. To fairly judge all of the entries you would have to know what the original looked like and not just pick a few that you liked. GP

But if it is poorly done photographically, why would you need to google it? Even if it resembled the album cover, why would you vote for a photo that wasn't well done? Sorry, I always need to get the to the heart of the matter. :-D

Nightski...good question.

I look at it this way, that if I was going to judge in a fair manner I would still need to look at each original one to the one submitted. Reasons - 1) I am not a professional, so my well done will be different vs. someone else's well done (as we see people say great photo to ones that are not so great and vice versa). 2) With knowing what the original looked like I can correctly judge on how much effort/creativity and detail did the contestant put towards to producing their submission. 3) How well did the submitter follow the rules of the contest. 4) If I would provide feedback on my choice and the way I judge then I would have a solid response vs. I just picked a few that I liked and went from there.

In other words I would try to provide each contestant a fair chance for my review and judging. So I probably would spend way to much time needed to judge as I would go over board on my analysis!

Love the question and thanks for asking. GP

Thanks for your honesty, GP. Maybe for this one it would have been a good idea to post the original album cover beside the entry. That might have conflicted with copyright laws though. I can't say I'm not disappointed about this.

On the contrary, I think this contest has a very favourable turnout. It required more thought and planning than normal and I love some of the entries. 25 is a good turnout for this.

New rules? I don't think any new rules have been implemented. However, the past few topics have been themes that were quite clever and unique - therefore more likely to require creating something new rather than digging through archives. To that, I say BRAVO.

The baggie contest and the paperclip contests were great fun! Not only to attempt myself, but to enjoy the creativity of others.

Truth be told, I think the reason for the small number of entries for this weeks contest is that nobody had a photo in their archives that matched the subject.

I must agree here with what is being said. There is NO question many of these entries are pulled from archives and submitted rather than being set up and taken specifically for a contest during that given week.
Case in Point... the contest a few weeks back centered around backlighting. There were submissions IMMEDIATELY after the contest was announced.. I don't care who you are.. you can't capture a sunset like that IF THE SUN HASN"T SET YET! And even at sunset getting a picture like many of those submitted is very rare.
I'm just saying.
I suppose it would be more important if the contest had actual prizes. Bragging rights isn't incentive enough to initiate a scene. (Excuse the Pun)
