They both make wonderful cameras capable of making outstanding pictures. It really comes down to a matter of personal preference. Your best bet is to visit a camera shop where you can actually see and handle the various cameras. This will help you answer the question of which camera is best for you.
North, South.
Ford, Chevy.
Day, night.
It all depends on what you want.
This has been cussed and discussed a thousand times in this forum. I would suggest that you use the search function and determine for yourself.
Just remember, opinions are like ass holes, everybody has one.

This is excellent advise. Only you can make the determination on which one is better. Handle both and search through the functions of each to help determine which seems easier to use. The fit and feel in your hands can really make the difference. Both Camera companies make excellent camera's and lens options. You may also choose to also look at other brands which have their own distinct feel and operation. The only thing that could really influence your decision might be any lens or accessories you may already have or that another friend or family member who would allow swapping at times may have that could make a difference. Good luck and between either brands you will choose a good one.

When I wanted to start in digital I had a figure for purchasing and went to rent a Nikon(in my price range for a few days) took a lot of pictures ,returned it and rented a comparable Canon and did the same. Then i made up my mind. Good luck with whichever one you choose. Both make a good camera.

Exactly. The only factor that should weigh more heavily is if you already have some lenses.
All cameras have their pros and cons, I researched this many times, different brands and different cameras back and forth over and over spec vs spec, youtube video after video reviews before I chose to upgrade from my Canon 30D to my new Canon 7D, not because it's the greatest but due to the fact that budget is an option for me and as I already had some good canon glass I stuck with canon.
Basically, in a lot of reviews and discussions I have come across its not just the camera that should determine greatness of the product, it would be the person controlling the camera and who is willing to put in the effort required to master its controls basically.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Food for thought?
You all have been a big help. I am ready to get my new camera and starte shooting. We went camping this weekend and I almost left the camp site and head back to town to buy the camera. I love nature and missed not taking pictures. Missed some nice shots
There is no "better" - it's - which fits YOU the best ?
P.S. Don't leave Sony out ! ....
