A early morning shot of my favorite peak in the San Juan range, only a hour from my home.

very nice pic..... I would crop off some of the bottom( have the trees the same in top to bottom as the sky) that would frame the mountian very well. Is that close to Ouray?

I agree and will crop the trees some more. Yes it close to Ouray, but closer to Ridgeway, just a few miles up Dallas Creek.
Thanks Greg.

I would have raised my lens a bit[close to cropping],took pic/ 1 pace left-another pic/ 2 paces right[= 1 pace right]-another pic..raising lens gives better balance[1/4 forground-1/4 sky]. right pace would disturb tree highlight
in midground[not good]. left pace would have hidden secondary peak from left tree branch[again not good].great framing[side framing]..over all I think your pic is best possible from that position. I might have taken several pics
[time enterval]to see how midground hightlighting by sun would change things..---joe

Thanks for you suggestions. I agree. I always take more than one shot (usually about a dozen) from one location doing the side steps etc. as you have described. I will attach another shot that I may like a little better. See what you think. Thanks again, you're making me think for next spring.

I think #2 is much more pleasing to the eye. That is a beautiful area, my older brother and his wife became camp hosts last summer in Ridgeway State Park, he took some really beautiful shots in that area. Lucky you to live there!

Thanks Tracy. I am thrilled to have lived here all of my life. Although I appreciate it more the older I get and the more I use my camera. :-)

#2....beautiful country! I'd like to drive some of the high country jeep trails in that area.

They have improved the roads in the last few years. The scenery is amazing in the whole area.
