I had added this to the other thread.
That one must have been deleted.

I did a tone down on the color one as well as a B&W. To be honest the color photo looks great except for the color tone is high . so I lowered it some. I personally think the photo pops better in color .. Hope you like .

Hello Hoggers,
I'd appreciate some help converting this colour shot to B&W. Everything was against me at the party venue where I shot this photo - tungsten lighting, bright pink spotlights everywhere and no windows. I don't like the colour pic and my attempt at B&W doesn't pop the way I'd like it to. If anyone can help me, that would be wonderful.

If you click on it you will go to Flickr and you down load it in full resolution. Just right click on the image and select Original and then right click again ans select Save Image As and you can put it anywhere on your computer. I will give you a selenium version in a few minutes.

Should have just uploaded it here instead of flickr and click the Store Original box, less steps and less download time.

Thanks so much. I'm going to print the colour and Selenium version to see which I like best.

If you use Photoshop, there are 3 approaches I use sometimes of to convert color to B&W: (1) Change Mode to grayscale- this is quick, but gives you little control over the result other than changing contrast, etc. first in the color version. (2) Use the Hue/Saturation option under Image/Adjustments (gives different results from (1) with same pre-conversion options; (3) examine the Channels one by one: these are grayscale images in themselves, and sometimes one of them will look the best. there are more complex uses of Channels, too, but I'm still learning about that.

Thank you Lee. There's a lot to learn, isn't there?

Thank you all for helping me out. I printed the Selenium B&W version and it looks great. And I printed the toned down colour version but brightened it slightly. It too is good.
Thanks again everyone.
