The "Moving Wall" was brought to our little burg by the Owen County 4-H Fishing Team. It is a 1/2 size replica of the Viet Nam Memorial Wall. They booked it a year ago, thinking they could raise the money. When they realized they were running a little short, they didn't give up but found some sponsors. A plywood base had to be built, then the wall had to be assembled and then taken down. They arranged for a Huey to fly in our (local) and only surviving Medal of Honor recipient from Indiana, Sargeant Major Sammy Davis. The Owen County Fire Dept. displayed a huge flag. The VFW and Legion did the honors. The flags were also brought in by 3 youth on their horses. The Garden Club did the landscaping. These kids are to be applauded for their fundraising of about $9000, base building, assembling, disassembling, escort service, docents, program planning, solos, buglar and guarding 24/7 of The Wall. I'm sure there are many steps I am forgetting. Our Community was truly moved and honored to display The Moving Viet Nam Memorial Wall and to have such wonderful youth in our community.

I give all involved a standing ovation!!!
THank you for your service also. My husband, a Marine, Viet Nam Vet, as all the Vets, were very moved. We had been to The Wall in DC but having it in your own county leaves you speechless and choking tears. These kids were amazing! I took about 2000 photos. It was very hard to narrow down to these few. Thanks for looking.
Thank you, these kids are most deserving.
Outstanding display of respect from your teen-agers and others.

I am the wife of a Vietnam Vet, I've seen this wall for 25 yrs., at the All Veterans Reunion in Melbourne, FL. It always brings tears to my eyes. To see these young people working to bring it to your county and to erect it with the pride and reverence it deserves also brings tears to my eyes and makes me have hope for the this country. Great pictures and thanks to you all!

As an Aussie Vietnam Vet (69-70) I say a huge well done to all involved. In this world of seemingly endless bad news, it restores my faith when I see youngsters like this.
Glad you got the photos to remember this event for history.

Thank you so much! We think the youth of today are very self centered and feel entitled. Our county is the poorest county in Indiana, rural and though there are a few spoiled rich kids, that is far from the norm. Most of the time, they only get what they earn and family life for some is not good with this economy. We have many help programs, free lunches for anyone under 18 at the Lions Club, free Art creation at the Art Guild, teen programs at the churches, library programs. We focus on the youth where they can help themselves and each other, not necessarily just a hand out. In the past few years I have been amazed at some of our youth and have a new perspective on the obstacles this generation faces at home and in the community. It takes a community to raise this generation, just as we were. Many don't have that community any longer. We are working on it but have a long way to go. Thanks for looking and commenting.
Thanks! The teens in this community have restored my faith in this generation also.
WOW!! OUTSTANDING Job!!! well done to the 4-H Fishing Team of Owen County, Indiana...Thank you Boys and Girls.....

Your community should be very proud of these youth. In Sept 2012 I had the honor to be flown to DC to see the WWll memorial and the Viet Nam as well. Very moving experience.

Me too. It looks to me like there is hope for many of our young people today. My hope for them is to go on to greater things for our country and not die doing it.
I'm a veteran of two tours to Viet Nam, 823rd Combat Security Police,1968-1969-1969-1970. I'm proud to see these young people pay tribute to veterans, Please thank them .
