I was shooting at sunset with a Nikon D5000 and a Nikor 55-300mm lens. While waiting for the sun to slip behind the horizon in front of me , I noticed the foliage behind me was pretty active. I managed to get this shot from about 6 feet away, using apert-priority mode and boosting ISO up to 1000. Using a long lens, hand held meant the VR really did the work for me on this shot. I am sure a "macro" lens would have given much more clarity, but not bad for an unplanned freebie.
Looks good, i"am still waiting for the bee to land long enough to take a pix.
I hear ya on that one. I snapped about 25 shots in pretty rapid order, hoping that at least one would come out with the bee in the right position. I will be looking at macro lenses next.....I end up just leaving the zoom lens on, almost all of the time now, which limits how close ( physically) I can get to a subject.
Beautiful! I'm surprised at the lack of grain at 1000 iso.
I was surprised too.....I didn't really expect much, since it was a rushed shot. I just cranked it up knowing it was getting dark. The only post processing I really did was make an adjustment layer to sharpen just the bee, cropped out the extra foliage on one side, .....and edged in a very slight vignette.
YEah that looks really good for the lense and the iso. I have a 55-200mm nikorr av on a D3000 that doesnt do as well as your lense did. Im doing alot of macro with my 18-55 with 10x filters and even reverse mounting. Realy though i think that is a realy good shot you got.
Frankie - Thanks man.....good ambient light, and VR made the shot, I think.
Glen - Wow brother....I looked at your "Gallery" of shots.....what a collection. Kuddos for sure. I will be using your exif settings to help me with some night shots....like your "cactus" silhouettes for example.
Thanks phoneguy ... Likewise, I just viewed your flickr photostream slideshow. Very nice work.
