I tried Bryan Petersson's oil in water over colors (I used colored stripes). As you can see these attempts failed.
I have questions that I know will be answered in the critiques and comments offered. Thank you. :-(

You might want to search for Silvertone's thread titled "Stuck in the camper again....or something similar. He has the oil in water over color thing done very well. He's got a half dozen or more examples.....
I think your background is too close to the bottom of the pan I had to balance mine on some glasses to get it to blur the background.
Just wait a few weeks, post these exact same pics again, but this time say this is just what you were aiming for!
I had the pan handles on glasses.
Instead of going for less apperture (f16) I should have gone for more, maybe f3.5.

i still think they are interesting as is. diadonal lines are almost always good 9unless its a horizon) colors are good. could be a little brighter.
Yes, wider aperture and focus on the oil!
I have some brighter pictures, but the definition of the oil circles gets lost. See below.
'Failure' or not, I still like the first one.
Thank you BGenie and Sinatraman.
It' a very good try,but the main component missed (bright sun) or alot of light.
If I remember it right Bryan Petersson's did it under bright sun so oil gets visible.
Don't give up.
Change your lighting, get in closer and check your
background. Just look at it with your eye ball and
decide the next move (could be several runs to get it)
