Looks as though the welfare system works better than most people would like to think it does.

Thanks for this. Maybe now the right wing zealots on this site will STFU about welfare recipients.

Don't hold your breath, most of the right wingers I talk to will not believe anything they read (if they can read), if it goes against the propaganda they are constantly fed.

Right wing, Left wing, here we go again. Looks like Richard likes to stir the Pot.
Just like the rest of Politics, there are those that deserve and need welfare and there are those that take advantage of the system. Those who do are running it for all those who need it. Do not tell me you don't see this. Wake up.

Ahhh an un-biased rag that is against anything not left wing- I'd take it to the bank if I was you! By the way, we can read- some two year olds can, comprehension is the difference, which is what separates us from the 2 year old mentality of the left. We were short money once... my son overheard us, "we can go to the money store and get money out of the machine"- my dear 3 year old son told us once. Look up comprehension if you can't understand it. Reading is easy.

Now tell me what the blue barrels are for, being sold in a supermarket...and then explain why you shouldn't be upset about this. Might take some comprehension though... not just reading. Oh and google it so you can see the very same story in other sources, so you can cross reference it- ( another uncomfortable prospect for a liberal). NOte the sources that don;t cover it too- that is thinking "outside-the-box" though- you won't be able to comprehend that concept.

See, its not welfare anybody is against, some people need it. It is the abuse of it people are against. My son works in a supermarket while he goes to school, some of the welfare cards are for cash. The card owner buys a pack of gum with it, and they get back the balance in cash. YOUR tax dollars at work. That is unless you are getting food stamps...

Do you really believe Matt Desmond to be an honest author/blogger? His reputation for honest discussion and full disclosure of facts is approximately the same as Breitbart's. He just happens to write the way libs would like instead of the way righties would like.

The apparent source for the blue barrel story is the tabloid paper The New York Post, ranked just above The National Enquirer for journalistic integrity - any New Yorker can tell you that!

donrosshill, you are absolutely right -- the purpose of the post was to stir the pot, as is the purpose of many of my posts that begin threads. I want get people talking about issues and see if we can get any new information instead of just value judgments. I was not, however, engaging in the classical purpose of the troll -- to irritate and anger people, which factual posts nevertheless seem to do.

The welfare system is far from perfect, and there are lots of cheaters, but it does work a lot better than the right-wingers would have you think.

EBT users shipping food is making news from a large variety of sources. Why not attack the content rather than the messenger? This thread was started relying on information from a extreme opinion blog. 8-)

Could you quote a couple of these "right wingers" who would like us all to think welfare doesn't work as well as your "lots of cheaters" system works?

Do these "right wingers" hiding under your bed think the welfare system has more than just "lots of cheaters?" 8-)

I gave three sources to avoid that very thing. I could have used many more. But if you are willing to discount the New York Post as a National Enquirer- then the OP's source qualifies in that regard as well. Tell me what the OP's story prints about failings and or abuses in the system? Or are we to suppose that there is none when we all very well know there is.

If you’re looking for honest conversation and want to learn something you might try changing your tactics (I’m still betting on troll but we’ll see). Rather than throw out a bunch of BS telling us what we think our how we feel on specific subjects why not just as how we feel or what we believe? When you start by telling us what we believe or how we feel you’ve already engaged in battle. Usually you’ve got it wrong or at least partially wrong and now you've put us on the defense before we've said a word. I find that I’m often put in a box with some article or news bite that I haven’t even seen or read and you’re telling me that’s what I think. I check into it and more often than not the story has been taken out of context or misinterpreted and so now we argue about the story. You may be very surprised at what both sides have in common if you would ask first and accuse later. Are you really interested in what WE think and how WE feel? Or are we just looking to throw some more mud.

I really don't need to. All you have to do is read this and other threads in this forum. I am not going to waste my time going back through posts, picking them out and posting. That work is for you -- though you are probably not willing to do it.
I am assuming here that you are thinking of my remark about how the welfare system is working better than many think. Here is the link:
