Dear friends,
I would like to respectfully suggest that unless someone misspells a photography-related technical term, where the misspelling might affect something like an expensive purchasing decision, that we give each other the benefit of the doubt and let these things go. Sometimes they are innocent typos, sometimes they may be the poster's attempt to inject a glimpse of his/her personality into the post.... whatever the reason, maybe we can agree to just let these things go. I really gain a lot from the photography information on this forum. The posts that pick on other people's spelling just make me fell bad.
Thanks.

I am the last person to correct someone's spelling mistakes. Spelling was never and still isn't my strong point.

I am one of those who have a hard time spelling, so I rely on M S Word 2010 for spelling and grammar correction. Its a lot easier than asking the wife to proof read my stuff. Just type out and do the corrections then copy and paste into the UHH reply box. I would rather do that than to let everyone know how stupid I am.
Hope this helps someone.
I personally don't associate lack of spelling skills to being a stupid person. I get in a hurry sometimes and hit a key wrong. Also the auto-spell feature on I-phones and similar can change the spelling without you noticing it did it. Being stupid about spelling are those that would limit another's opportunity to express themselves by ridicule. It is a form of bullying and inappropriate among friends! Jerry

Perhaps the word stupid should have been lack of typing skills. I dont and would not put anyone down because they dont know how to use the key board. And you are right about the I-phones giving a false reading
been there done that.
In my case, knowing that I have in the past has had bad experience with type-os and grammar, etc. I would use this MSWord 2010 to offset that problem as best I could. If it is available, why not use it?

I also use ms word before I send a message to reply to this forum and use mostly the spell checker.
But is it possible to have a spell checker connected to this forum?
Me being a Dutchy I really need that more than others.

I couldn't write a coherent sentence without the use of "Spell Catcher".
http://www.rainmakerinc.com/I've been using it for many years, and find it indispensable. It provides spell checking to just about everywhere that you can type text on a computer, including this forum. It will check as you type and alert you to misspelled words. Or, you can check blocks of text for errors.
That being said, it
still doesn't prevent the misuse of words such as;
there, their, theyre, to, too, two, here, hear, than, then, your, you're, which is seen much too often.
I would never correct someone on the forum, however I
would correct close friends and family if I observed such misuse. And, I would want them to correct me as well.

I agree and think that we need to give eachother a break. I worked for a man who ran a multi million dollar ad agency and couldn't spell. He relied on me for everything concerning typing his speeches, etc. Just because you might not be able to spell or express yourself eloquently, shouldn't matter. We are all here to becomes better photograpers by learning from others. That's my opinion and I don't use spell check. I probably should use it but, I had to do it for a living. So, retired now don't want to do it. I probably spelled words incorrectly in this paragragh (who cares). Cheryl

when my child was having problems learning how to spell, i learned that intelligence and spelling ability are not related.
i, with batchelor's degree, can spell (almost) anything; my spouse (with the master's degree) can't spell worth a darn.
My biggest problem is autocomplete on my iPad and iPhone. The size of the font also poses a problem. Spell checkers do help but things like there, their and they're or to too and two don't work. I usually do ok but who among us? I'm very forgiving.
Oops somebody already said that. Yet another problem on this forum!
Forgive me

I agree, sometimes on the threads, people here get bent about the smallest of things. Like hijacking the subject to discuss how one spells? I say really are we still in high school. Usually, I just laugh it off to ignorance. As for the autocomplete on iPhone, I hate it. I've sent swear words to friends by accident. But, they all use iPhone too and understand. Cheryl 8-)
Fascinating! Everybody on this thread exhibits decent spelling and grammar. The greatest offenders are conspicously absent.
I find it interesting that photography is about communications and yet some of the contributors seem barely literate.
I have found that people that read heavily are better spellers and communicators.
I have no intention of castigating the bad spellers, but I will classify them in my brain.
Ok, Ok, Here is a revelation for ya, "None of Us are Perfect" all though some really believe they are, we are all here to enjoy this forum and learn more. I don't care if you have done this for 50 years you can still learn more and you don't need to look down your nose at newbe's. I enjoy talking with someone that is knowledgeable (did I spell that right?) about a subject I love, but not someone that can "only look good if they make me look bad". (enough said I will put my soapbox away)
