60mm--seemed like an odd # for a "prime".
I looked it up at Canon and the designate it as macro.
Personally to me it looks like a "waste of money" lens. $469.00>>60mm f2.8. that isn't a very wider aperture for a lens priced at 469.00...
The photographers that do macro might have good info on this one.

have canon EFS 60mm 2.8
Dria probably right pricey but pics are nice I imagine you could do just a well with a Tamron or Sigma....most of my other lens are Tamron & I have no complaints..

I have the 60mm Macro and it takes nice pictures. Focuses very close and in a way that is the disadvantage. To get a good macro picture you have to be on top of your subject. You can't always get right up to what you want a picture of so a longer macro, probably in the 90mm-105mm range might be better.

Someone was selling on craigslist yesterday for $150, today he wants $200 sounds like a scam to me

I have a Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro. It's a great lens. Gives you plenty of room to light as you are not right on top of your subject. See samples below....

I have the EFS-60 Macro mounted on a Canon 50D, and mounted on a tripod. I manually focus through the LCD monitor and get good crisp results.
The first image of a day lily is shot at 0.7mm distance, 1/500, f4, ISO100.
The second of an Iris is shot at 0.5m distance, 1/500, f4, ISO100.
The third of a rose is shot at 0.8m, 1/2000, f3.5, ISO 400.
When I originally checked on lenses for macro images, this was the recommended lens. I have been happy with it when used as listed above. I have had mixed success with the auto focus on it.
Lately I have read articles supporting the EFS100 instead. Ihope this helps your question.
