Corzine was a jerk before he was Governor of New Jersey, he was a jerk as governor, and he's a jerk now. Hope he ends up sharing a cell with Madoff.

English, JimH, I guess no one was watching their FICO scores. I learnt about the "perils" of debt early on in life, by just by listening and hanging around in my neighborhood on the lower east side in NYC. Once you get anyone on the treadmill of debt, credit card or otherwise, you "own them". The problems get woise and woiser as time goes by, and all without piano accompaniment. I guess countries finances are no different. That is how Imperial Russia, España, France and most of Europe for that matter, got themselves into a pickle from the 1100's on. Why should today be any different, commerce is the catalyst and commerce demands it! Debt and pressure on trade to and from Cathay, such as piracy and camelback "toll booths" on the Silk Roads, precipitated the discovery of the new world (all pre Frigidaire of course). As always in those days it was more on a personal level between family members, more like a chess game involving kings, queens, brothers, cousins and in-laws etc. EC is just a modern version now pitted against the same exporter of centuries ago, Cathay. Debt just keeps being moved about, cloaked and reinvented, it has always been the hidden commerce of choice. The common denominator is $greed$, Corzine is probably the reincarnation of Marco Polo’s evil twin, that is all. (IMHO as always and a capitalist at heart).

I see the gvt clowns and I want to shorten them (french trait, we like shortening folks by a head). When I see greed take over folks I want to elongate them quite a bit before letting them rot under a tree.

The financial crisis was created by many factors, not just one but two of the main factors were:
1) Deregulation of the banking industry in order to offer the minorities an opportunity to purchase their own houses, Good idea, bad application. The bank knew they were bad loans and passed them over to credulous investors. The political deregulation helped with that.
2) The US went into war against two countries instead of seeking to find the 9/11 and kill one person. Instead we killed 10 of thousands, maimed thousand of US troops (now who need permanent support and in addition to that, as if it was not bad enough we not only 'paid' for reconstruction (virtual) of two countries be we also paid countries around to allow access to go to war. Cost so far about 1 trillion and counting.

1 and 2 are not related but play a big part in the US economy right now.

The villains (read greedy bastard) are responsible for ruining many folks and associations but do not come near the total lack of politician criminal irresponsibility over 1 and 2.

Now we have morons that expect to reduce the deficit by lowering taxes on the 'no tax payers' (read wealthy' while giving subsidies to large corporations that claim they need it to create jobs in the US when in fact they hire oversea...

So less money in, more money out (subsidies) = no money to pay the debt. Now what? Crush the gvt with cuts? To what purpose? Show how thrifty political parties are? This is an insult thrown in the face of all Americans.

We, as American, need not to accept this and support the occupation of congressmen and senator chambers as well as their home and offices. They are the true guilty people, from all parties! Wall street is only a symptom of our country sickness. The cancer lies with politicians that are literally purchased and hired by corporations. Here we can blame the supreme court decision to give 'free speech' to corporation as well as 'the right to finance political' races.

Less taxes for folks? it goes straight back to the bank due to all the interest and fees accumulated on families and individuals who were seduced by easy credits. Don't just blame the banks, look above, behind and beyond them and see the ugliness of self-serving individuals that hide, not even from shame but from the supposed ideal of serving one country.

Democracy has created a new class: sold-out-to-the-highest-bidder-politicians.

JMAO (Just my angry opinion).
