Peeping Tom Deer

I just purchased a Canon T3i and I am an excited novice. A few days after I got it I noticed a deer pass by my front window. I grabbed the camera ran into a bedroom on the other side of the house. When I peeked through the blinds I was as surprised as this deer was! This shot was a complete point and shoot auto photo. 55-250 mm at 55, ISO 500, f/4 for 1/80

The second photo is my 5 year old 105 lb. Doberman, Achilles, who still suckles his blanket. What is the best way to avoid the green eye reflections? I just ordered an external flash so I can experiment with bouncing the light. Again on full auto: 55-250 mm at 100, ISO 400, f/5 for 1/60

Thanks in advance for the input!

I'm not sure if this works with dogs, and I'm not even sure if it works on humans..haha but...I have read where if you are getting too much reflection or red eye, or you just want to soften the light, to put a white tissue over your flash. If you try it..let me know...and if you mean after the photo has been taken..there are programs out there that will help take out the red eye or green eye.

The "anti-red eye" feature on some/most cameras uses a pre-flash beam of light that shoots out just before the regular flash, to make the iris retract and cut back on the amount of inner eye blood vessels that would normally make your grandma look like a vampire. Not sure if it will work with dogs, which seem to have a 'green eye' rather than a red eye.

Also, if your 105lb Doberman wants to chew a blanket, that's perfectly alright with me.. :)

a diffuser of some sort does a really good job on taking the red eye and or green eye out ,,they sell many kinds, or you can improvise as mentioned above..welcome and thanks for sharing

Thank you all very much for the suggestions. The picture of Achilles that I posted was the best of about 10 shots. All of them had severe green eye reflections... that was with the red-eye reduction function turned on. I will try the tissue trick Sugarpenny and let you know. If it doesn't work I will pick up a real one at the photo shop when I get my external flash. Jim - funny! Achilles is actually the biggest baby you have ever seen. Thank you again. This is a great website.

Great capture on the deer. I guess that is where auto comes in handy, when you don't have time to do anything but press the shutter.

Thank you, I appreciate it. Now I hope I can learn how to do something beyond!

Thank you. We have been lucky to have an abundance of wildlife come through this year. I hope they continue to come now that I have a worthy camera!

I think the phrase "green with envy" was derived from dogs. Whenever my dogs have had a prized possession - toy, bone, etc, the green is literally in their eyes - even without using a flash. I have never found anything preflash or red eye setting that has removed that except to take pictures of them when they do not control something like that.

Where are all the PS folks. They have a great red eye removal program. Tough useing the double flash on a deer. I think the deer photo is very good.
