Hi, I have a cheapish vanguard tripod, I attached a hook to the bottom of the centre post then hang my camera bag off it when shooting = light to carry around and sturdy when in use...

Sounds like you want the advice of JR1, so I won't recommend a tripod for you. Good luck.

Yes, it is frustrating. If people used good, descriptive titles, Search would be much more effective. Also, I find clicking on "(advanced options)" and clicking on "Sort to show most recent topics first" helps.

Thanks JR1. Any chance you could be a bit more comprehensive next time

Seriously, that's brilliant - thanks so much for your time and effort.

Also, thanks everyone who has contributed - I now have a lot of reading to do. Bob

OK JR1, you've definitely got everything covered in the original posters' question. Now here's mine..."What will win The Grand National" on Saturday lol.

JR1, be careful about posting copyrighted material like that. The publishers of that magazine could very well come after you.

Look at the available models from Gitzo and Manfrotto. They offer fiberglass. Suggest you stay with 3-part legs; the 4 part legs are inherently not as stable. But a good tripod does not come cheap.

Now I know why I shouldn't have asked that question without adding the extra little details you always request, such as Camera, lens, and above all, a list of ALL the horses in the Bl..dy race lol.

You should have asked "which horse" not "what will win"

:)
