In the midst of some of our heated political discussions, a few people have taken cheap shots at California, calling our state "the land of the fruits and the nuts."

I thought this opinion piece from The New York Times might be of interest to a few of you. Economically, California is on the mend, and we are beginning several massive projects of great interest -- high-speed rail, and a re-engineering of our water supply system.

You can pooh-pooh this state all you want, but if you are a Republican, as the article notes, your opinion has become irrelevant.

I am not political, but I am a Californian, if we are in such trouble as many of you state can you duplicate this in your state? Houses are selling in the bay area up to $100,000 more than the asking price. Compare that with Nevada? As we say if California coughs Nevada has pneumonia.

If repubs are irrelevant then so is their money!

Mexifornia is a socialist sink-hole that can't survive without other people's money. Live by your own legislation or die by it... No other State wants to support you.

There is nothing to brag about when it comes to mexifornia unless you like the demographics!

You see this as a good thing? All it does is put even more people out of range of affordable housing. Typical California, lends spend more than we have to.

Please tell me how one goes about paying $100,000 more than the "asking price?" (That is if I believed you in the first place.) I used to live in Riverside, CA.

All the more reason to call Mexifornia the land of fruits and nuts!

LOL NYT opinion pages.... says republicans are irrelevant, big surprise there, maybe they did not get the memo that more and more the Times is viewed as a rag, hardly a bastion of unbiased reporting.

I just read an article that California is in need of an additional $40 billion to finish its train to nowhere, do you know anything about that?

LOL . The New York Times is still the paper of record. It's demise
is the fevered wishful thinking of the fringe right, which lives in its own fantasy world of manufactured "facts."

The paper of record for whom? New Yorkers and DC politicians? Few other people take the Times seriously anymore and if you can't see their bias... well, maybe you should schedule a visit with the eye doctor.

Seriously?! Have you followed its circulation trends? Yikes! If it's not dead just yet, it is well on its way to being so. So sad. =(

My father was a statistician and stated that statistics don't
lie but statisticians can.

CA was about the 6th largest economy in the world about 10-12
years ago. We were the "bread basket" to the world. They
started taking out about 20K acres a year for building homes
and businesses. The mid state agricultural areas are dying
off. Where in CA is agriculture being taught?

Just wondering. Of course what so I know? I'm just a liar.

I'm not defending California's progressive sink hole but houses can sell more than the asking price when a bidding war breaks out in a short supply market. It happens when there are more buyers than sellers. The market will always correct itself unless the government meddles with it.

Nailed it with clear-eyed precision once again. Open borders, sanctuary cities, 94% of outstanding murder warrants in the greater LA region from the southern border, some of THE most despicable unions in existence, failed public education system, and, oh gosh, I could go on and on and on. You'd never guess I truly love California, would ya? but it's true. The fact I adore the physical state so very much is undoubtedly the source of my vitriol against those who govern it. The sheer numbers of upper middle class former Cali tax payers we've met, just here in San Antonio alone, is nothing short of astonishing! SOO sad for my beloved former home state. =(

I agree, I had a home that I was selling several years ago and after sitting on it for six months without a serious offer two individuals became interested at the same moment and although they did not bid more than my asking price they both bid asking because they were aware of each other, it came down to looking at who was more qualified as to which offer I accepted....

The ONLY reason prices are up in the 100k range is simply because they fell so... far in the housing melt down in 2008-9. The market is having its largest recovery at this very time...

You must be one of the reasonable ones because you didn't sink into a mass of insult, etc., etc.
