Yep - Calgary is a long ways from California - hard to tell what is really going on here if one is not here as I am.

Danilo, hate to tell you this, but if you had read the article carefully you would see that California is on track to have a SURPLUS, and that federal grants, etc. are contributing a good deal of the costs, too. YOUR tax dollars at work, HA ! Furthermore, the addition of the jobs these projects will entail will also help our economy. Don't know if you noticed, but real estate values are going up fairly well here in California. In my area, they improved by around 20% in the past year, and the increase shows no sign of slowing.

The reports you have reveled in about the death of California's economy have been great exaggerated. Of course, since you are listed as being from Las Vegas, you probably have a totally pessimistic view of the economy, since your is one of the worst in the nation.
Danilo, hate to tell you this, but if you had read... (show quote)

I guess everything is on your side except common mathematics. If you have zero dollars, you are BROKE. If you have $28 billion dollars of debt (minimum!) you're worse than BROKE. If your governor dug in his own pocket (NOT likely) and paid off $20 billion of your state's debt, you'd still be $8 billion in debt. I not only read your LA Times article, but a couple others relating to your debt. There is no honest way for CA to realize a surplus in the foreseeable future.
You're right, Nevada's fiscal situation is in the crapper. We're having a tough time keeping our politicians in line with our economy, and I'm not just talking about Harry. But our topic on this thread is California, so I'm not going to hijack.

I can drive to Seal Beach in under 24 hrs. Its not a world away. There are more people in California than there is in all of Canada. We manage quite well here in the 2nd largest Country in the world and I can get to anywhere within it. Your Debt is astonishing. With whole city's and counties going bankrupt. You spend other peoples money like a drunken sailor at an ATM machine. You are a leader in the loss of morality among almost any other Country in the world. But things probably look OK from California's point of view...

Don't have a clew which and where Seal Beach is but from my drives from Northern Idaho to central CA I do know 24 hrs of driving will get you well into CA. As for having more people than Canada I can see why as most of Canada is as uninhabitable as Siberia. Lots of CA industry has taken a kick in the balls from the environmentalism - Logging, mining, fishing - heck I wonder how Canada got the tar sand project past them. The State has been cutting the budget in many ways .
As for morality decay - there too I feel you read too many news papers and watch too much T.V.

Yes it is colder here but much of it is inhabited. From sea to sea and from the Far North to the South. I am excited about the climate as it has been warming for a very , very long time, Just not fast enough. Still 8 months of winter...
I don't spend much time on the tube, too much Hollywood for me...

I don't think so. The comment was too inarticulate and incomprehensible to strike a nerve.

LOL NYT opinion pages.... says republicans are irrelevant, big surprise there, maybe they did not get the memo that more and more the Times is viewed as a rag, hardly a bastion of unbiased reporting.

I just read an article that California is in need of an additional $40 billion to finish its train to nowhere, do you know anything about that?

I thought this opinion piece from The New York Times might be of interest to a few of you. Economically, California is on the mend, and we are beginning several massive projects of great interest -- high-speed rail, and a re-engineering of our water supply system.

You can pooh-pooh this state all you want, but if you are a Republican, as the article notes, your opinion has become irrelevant.

Hola.
