I want to take this opportunity to Thank every single one of our Veterans who put their selves and their families on the line to give us our Freedom! Thank-you Dad...Gessman and the Men and Women I do not know on here yet. May God Bless you all with his Grace. May your Veterans Day be a day that you say..." Thank-you" to a Veteran for all he/she gave up ... just for you. Freedom is not Free.
Happy Veterans Day!! 11/11/11

For our Veterans

I'm a VHW ah... well... actually... even though it sounds impressive, VHW actually stands for Veteran of Home Wars, referring to the battle wounds I've suffered during the marriages to both of my first two ex-wives.

However, on the serious side, I AM president of our local historical society, and as such I make films documenting the lives of our local military veterans. I've had three sons in the military.

Actually veteran days is being resented by many veterans seeing how mistreated they are/where by a country that tip their hat once a year and go merrily to a BBQ.

Veterans need more than that as well as active duty, even if not in a conflict area.

Same goes for other folks like firemen and police. These folks also place their lives on the line and for what? An ungrateful population that does not bother to acknowledge them.

I am upset over this because my wife is active duty (O6) and worked on the wounded warrior program with a 'political apointed - under the previous administration). She had front line seat to see what was really going on. It is ugly, unjust and all is created in such a way that folks who REALLY need help do not.

Between the VA infigting, the DOD self interest and the 'territorial war nothing gets to be done. Remember the Walter Reed scandal? The army painted over everything and got newsie around: See everything is fine and dandy. In reality a wounded person had basically no help to get from point A to point B under any condition.

If we really want to 'cerebrate' those guys we need to assault Washington and get rid of the cockroaches that are killing those who served and where unlucky to be seriously wounded. And I mean STAY in DC for as long as it takes, not just one day. A few associations try to get things going but hey? Who cares in DC?

Remember the folks who gave their lives on 9/11 and those who are now gravely ill due to chemical while working the site? The f***** republican in congress nixed a budget to support them.

So for me, veterans days is just one more insult to veterans alive or dead. But we love pump and circumstances, waving little flags and then forget all of it and go about our lives chasing the latest gadget.

You are damn right I am angry but is not against the vets, it is against an ignorant passive population that does nothing but oooh and aaah, just like in a sitcom studio.

Yeah we can be thanks full for those men and women but also we could acknowledge our short comings toward them.

---

The same can be said for other countries with their own war veterans some are even worse like the UK and France that made promises during WWI and WWII to their colonial fighters, they would get the nationality and so forth. They got nothing and only recently some got a little bit of money, a fraction of what an English of french got.

Okay I realize you are upset...but this was Just a nice person trying to Thank..people that she has lost or that she knows or doesn't... That helped give us our freedom. Veterans Day has been honored a long time..Yes we should have Firemen day and Policeman day I agree..In my eyes any one that gives their life on the line freedom should be recognized. But this wasn't the place to be angry.

I agree and no anger here. I want to thank all our service men and women. All firefighters, policemen alike. All that protect and service this great nation. Most of all to my son, Nathan, who is in the Navy. My precious boy! Cheryl

You missed all the rest. Why do we have homeless wounded veterans by example? Why is there no program to get them out of the street? Why is there no program for families of a wounded veteran who has PTSD? or TBS?

Because we have a f**** government that does not give a shit and a population that could not care less other than a day off and a freaking BBQ!

How can you truly be thankful and thanks full when you know all that?

Anyway, enough, enjoy your day off and your BBQ but don't tell me EVER that this is in celebration of the folks that gave their lives for us and for those still alive that have memories they cannot even bring themselves to share.

I had my say, angry one, I know but it needs to be said. Had I stayed silent I would be an hypocrite.

I was in the Navy 1968-69 and served on an ammunition ship of the coast of Viet Nam. My father was a Silver Star recipient in WWII and was wounded on Saipan. I also want to thank all those men and women that served our country and the ones that made the ultimate sacrafice.

Yes thank you Chick and thank you to the veterans I know and those I don't know. I have a cousin who served two terms in Iraq and was injured and wants desperately to go back into the service because he believes in this country and protecting it!

Thank you for your post Hipfarmchick! I am a very proud U.S. Navy Veteran and your sincere message means more than you will ever know. I saw many Sailors and Naval Aviators pay the ultimate price to preserve our freedom and liberty, and they did so with honor. I feel bad that your post was met by someone with such venom and disrespect. We had a saying in the U.S. Navy's 7th Fleet. We are here on duty so that our families, friends, and fellow citizens can "sleep tight". Thank you again for your kind words!

I second that comment. We sometimes need to pause and give thanks even when we don't have the time.
