Lopossa School - I often dream of when I went to this little one-room school that housed grades 1-4. I think of my first day at school and remember exactly what my teacher said to me as I climbed the four steps inside. The school once set in a meadow with surrounding trees, two outhouses and a coal shed that fed the pot-bellied stove. It now sets abandoned in the center of harvested fields. The memories fade as I dream of a simpler time.

An interview with LovePhotography330

I was so surprised to win this week. I don't know what else to say for the interview, more than I've already contributed. I "feel" my photos and almost always keep the thoughts in my memory when I take a photo. Photography is my release in life.

An interview with jkaye65

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
My big jump into the world of photography happened in 1983 when I joined the USAF and was trained as a photojournalist. I quickly became fascinated with working in the darkroom.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
After separating from the military (in Virginia) I went to college and earned my photography degree. From there I moved to upstate NY and worked for a daily newspaper for a few years. My (now-ex) wife was career military so I had to move when she did. I shoot for my Harley club a lot and I've been working on improving my landscape photography for the past few years.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I purchased some new equipment and I made a trip to Bodega Bay a few weeks ago to test it out. I wanted to practice with it before my trip to Maui in June.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
This shot was taken with a 5Dmii, Canon 17-40L, 30 seconds @ F/22, ISO 50. The new equipment added was a Hoya ND400 filter (aka "Black Glass). I also had a tripod with a new Giotto ballhead (finally something powerful enough to hold the weight of my camera/lenses).

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I like the final image, so I wouldn't change a thing. I would advise, however, beware of wave number 7. About an hour before I took this shot I was setting up a shot with my back to the ocean and I sensed "something" behind me so I grabbed my equipment and quickly raised it into the air as #7 proceeded to soak me from the waist down. So I spent the next few hours drenched.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
When I'm not making images, I can be found working (in construction), riding my HOG or hiking in the great outdoors.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Some of my works may be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Arts (ha ha....in my dreams)

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I feel in love with Photography about 15 years ago. My family bought me my first Digital camera for Christmas.By the next day I had it mastered. Since them I keep moving up. Then 3 years ago I moved up to the DSLR's Wow. Now with my Nikon D7000, and hopefully soon the D7100 too I can't get enough of Photography.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
After getting my first Nikon D3100 I took some classes through NWTC a local college, To learn more about my camera. And then some Photography, and lighting classes.
I love taking wildlife photos the most, I love the challenge.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Just having a newborn grandchild, and wanted play with some props I had bought. And with some natural lighting, this was way before I got my first DSLR.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used a Kodak Z1012is, with lighting from a lamp and natural window lighting.
With the tripod- ISO at 250 - f/2.8 -1/30 sec.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Maybe a little more back lighting on the wings, And wish I would of had a Nikon at the time.
