Surely everyone has anti virus and malware software running so why worry.

I have never known any individual "hacked" are you important, you may pick up a virus though

Yes I do have anti- virus and malware running.....and no I am certainly not important
Problem is I get numerous emails from contacts who in actual fact have not sent them. These messages ask you (me) to follow a link

At this point I delete it. It is annoying and frustrating and I wondered if there is a method of finding out who has started this
And by the way any emails that I forward I do so via BCC

However thankyou for your prompt reply

Who is the email from ?

Especially hotmail emails, the persons account has been hacked. Just tell them to log in and change their password.

Should be the same for other freebie email programs.

You have to use caution when you receive an "out of character" email from your email contacts. If an acquaintance sends you an email with no subject that contains a website link or an attachment, delete it. PDF file attachments are especially dangerous, if the sender hasn't sent PDF's in the past, delete it.

Geniuses have been trying to solve this problem since the beginning of email...with no luck. If it doesn't look right, delete it. It's the best you can do.

Download a copy of Malwarebytes. They have a free version and it will clean your machine. In the future if you do not recognize the person sending you the email - don't open it.

There are a number of punks in the world that get their kicks breaking other peoples stuff. The internet allows them to do this with little chance of being caught. It reminds me of the people on UHH that jump into a conversation just to throw insults around.

It is the world we have and you just have to deal with it.

EVERYBODY gets these e-mails. If your address is out there (and it is), you will get them. You are not being hacked, it's called "phishing." Each has a link inviting you to download malware that will cause problems if you do. I just got back from five glorious days in the desert (1200 images) to find 300+ items in my in-box. Only 30 of them were from Nigeria, 5 from the FBI, one offered me viagra, and NOBODY cares about my penis length anymore. I must be getting old.
