Adorama
in Main Photography Discussion

A friend of mine fell in love with my Sony RX10M4 and is looking to purchase this camera from Adorama due to the bundle special. He asked me for my advise on this company and l did not know what to say to him, l never done business with this company. So my fellow UHH members l am asking your advise again not for me but for another camera guy that does not want to make a beginners mistake and buy from the wrong company but for a beginner and possibly another new member in the future.
Happy New Year and Pleasant Shoot Photos in 2019. May your Photos turn out wonderful each time you press your shutter button and never have a bad picture.

OK, another mirrorless and full frame question
in Main Photography Discussion

It may just be a GAS attack but I am considering changing from my Nikon d7100 to a mirrorless in the near future. My two main reasons are that I hope to lighten and shrink my equipment even a small amount as it's getting harder to lug my d7100 and Tamron 18-400 lens around. I realize there will be some change in how I view my photography with a mirrorless and also that some lenses will be as big as what I have but between lugging the gear in the tank bag of my bike and jumping in and out of safari vehicles and walking through the brush I'm ready for a little relief. Second, I also find myself pushing the ISO in the d7100 for a lot of shots in very low light conditions and a lot of my pictures are very difficult to bring back from the snow f...

The Mirrorless disruption
in Main Photography Discussion

D-SLR means Digital-SLR. There is a new guy in town.

I have several D-SLRs and also a M43 mirrorless kit. I have been shooting with M43 since circa 2005. M43 has been my go-to travel kit. Last year I bought a new Mirrorless body: an Olympus OM-D EM-5 Mii (Olympus has long model designations). Wow my only regret was that I waited so long.

I find that the electronic viewfinder on the OM-D lets me see exactly what the picture will be before I snap it. I usually use the M mode, and I find that I am ignoring the exposure meter, checking light and shadow, etc, and instead looking directly at the EVF, the light and shadow, and color .That saves time and gives me a better result more quickly than using my DSLR. It also saves stupid mistak...

Canon 5D Mark IV Skin Tones
in Main Photography Discussion

I've been shooting with the Canon 5d Mark IV for a year now. It is a great camera and am glad to have made the upgrade from my 5D Mark III. I have noticed one issue the camera seems to have that the 5D Mark III didn't. That is skin tones, or the lack of. The 5D Mark IV seems to "blow out" lighter or pale skin tones. There seems to be a lack of detail or definition in light or pale skin tones. To correct this problem I have to underexpose the shot and fix in Lightroom. I prefer to have my photos correct right out of the camera. I might add, these are shots without flash. I have started using a circular Polarizing filter and that seems to have corrected the problem. Has anybody else experienced this problem with the Canon 5D Mark IV....

Advice for Sunrise at Haleakala on Maui
in Main Photography Discussion

We have been to Maui several times before and never gone to see the sunrise at Haleakala so going to do it this time. Those out there that have experienced this have any suggestions? I know we now have to get a 'ticket' from the parks department 60 days prior just to go up or take a "tour". Also dress warm, we plan on taking winter clothes and then ship them home, since this will be our first stop of our island hopping. I know before it was a mad house crammed with people and no parking if you did not get there early. This was one of the reasons we did not do it before. Has the ticket requirement changed this dense pack of people and mad rush to get there first some? I am planning on taking a tripod but from photos of the crowd of people l...

I'm presently shooting with a 5D Mark2 and am considering upgrading to a 5DSR.

Should I scrap the 5DSR idea? All comments will be appreciated.

Fujifilm Pricing: XT-2 vs. XT-3
in Main Photography Discussion

Just checked B&H and Adorama on Fuji X-T2 and X-T3 pricing. A few days ago the X-T2 was $1499 and the X-T3 was $1899, a $400 price difference with both packages including the excellent 18-55mm kit lens. Today they are priced the same. The X-T2 increased $400 to $1899 while the X-T3 remains at $1899, the same price. Wouldn't anyone in their right mind choose the X-T3 over the X-T2 at the same price? What is their pricing strategy? Would anyone here choose the X-T2 over the X-T3 at the same price? Why?

Inquiring minds want to know.

camera card slots
in Main Photography Discussion

Hello everyone, I have begun learning my new Nikon D7200, its also my first dslr camera. I also bought the book Mastering the Nikon D7200 to help me figure it out, and one thing at least so far that I am unclear about from the manual and book is how to use the card slots. I understand their purpose and how they can be set up, I would like to set them up so that slot 1 is for raw and slot 2 is for jpeg. The part I am not clear on is if I do that does their need to be a card in both slots. I know their will be times that I only want to shoot in jpeg, and for those times is it possible to just leave out the card in slot 1.

unreliable LCD screen
in Main Photography Discussion

Except for composition, I cannot rely on my LCD screen for focus and grain, and even blurriness.
I understand that it's small, but I find it very frustrating to view my downloaded images and discover that what I had thought was a beautiful photo is, in fact, a disappointment.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, ALL!

? About VR/IS
in Main Photography Discussion

I use Nikon first off. I have very limited experience with much of the new high tech features on lenses nowadays. I only have one Nikon lens that has VR, it’s the 16-35. Hence my confusion is from lack of experience.

I am used to using a good tripod and mechanical cable releases and mirror lockup. I have read numerous times and places that when tripod mounted one should disable the VR/IS because the tripod may fool the stabilization feature. When using a cable release, which is my common practice I cannot tell a difference when reviewing images.

Am I missing something. Curious about other’s experience. I can say that VR is pretty amazing handheld and allows much slower shutter speeds than in years past. Curious as to anyone’s ...

Does DPP4 have a red-eye remover?
in Main Photography Discussion

Does DPP4 have a red-eye remover?

I'm trying to learn DPP4 since I have it and it seems interesting. I don't understand why they disable brightness and such for JPGs. The older Zoombrowser seems to be able to do much more with JPGs. They can't expect you to use both, Zoombrowser doesn't come with newer cameras.

Eneloop battery charger

I have the 4 AA Eneloop Pro battery charger and 4 AA batteries- no problems.

I saw there was an eneloop Pro charger for both 4 AA and 2 AAA batteries. Does anyone have experience with this charger? A few reviews said there was a problem with the AAAs.
Thanks,
Jim

Google lens
in Main Photography Discussion

A member here asked for the ID of some birds the other day and i went for one of them and was correct.

Just an hour ago i was browsing You Tube and happened on ID searching by pictures.

Yes i just tried it a few times and was amazed at how accurate is was.

The APP for your phone is called Google Lens. It seem pretty good and thought everyone here, (that don't use it right now), might like it.

It does alot more also.

Hipstamatic - Thoughts, Tips & Tricks
in Main Photography Discussion

I did a search and found no results for hipstamatic. I am just curious if anyone here is using it and, if so, your thoughts, tips & tricks. I understand it has limitations and it is not a real camera, but it is on my phone which goes pretty much everywhere I go, unlike my regular cameras. Also, I have seen at least 1 pro shooter who has published a book using this app. I have just started playing around with this app. I am interested in y’all’s thoughts.
