You left batteries in your camera for a year and a half?
You are lucky they didn't leak and destroy your stuff.
I take my batteries out even its just for overnight.
Camera's, flash units, anything that has a battery.

As a self described bottom feeder, used gear is a great way to obtain gear. Which system has more used gear? Which system has cheaper gear?

I have one and bought the Splash Unit with the arm as well.
It's fun.
I have had only one lighting storm since I bought it, But I have a picture of a lighting bolt now.
I froze some water with food coloring in it, I went outside and bashed it with a hammer. I used the sound mode, it worked without a hitch.
I have dropped water balloons filled with colored water into my tub.
I have dropped a apple and a orange into a fish tank. That came out cool.
I have water drop pictures.
You need a good tripod, I do not think I could have hand held the shots I got.
You can find some of the shots if you click on my name, they are posted here.
I would honestley buy it again.

You are welcome. As far as taking a couple of steps, nah. You got the whole scene. Maybe a step or two back to get all of the witch sign. But that's nit picking. I would turn into a 11x14 and hang on my wall if I were you

I do not think anyone has mentioned the 400 mm L prime lens.
It's tack sharp and not all that heavy.
I think you could find a used one in excellent shape for under a 1,000.

Tamron and Sigma both have new versions of the 100-400. From what I gather they are both good choices.
They may be lighter, and less expensive than the Canon. Google them do a little research and find out.
I own both the Canon 1.4 and the 2x, II extenders. I found them on Craig's list I paid 150 for each one
On your camera the 2x will not autofocus. The 1.4 will. Something else to think about.
I own a f/2.8 70-200 L, it's heavy. I have the 100-400 L also, again it's heavy.
Out of the two the 70-200 is the sharpest.

Every lens I own. I can't pick one.
Each has it's own use. I have zooms, a macro. I have a 1.8 for indoors. I have a walk around lens.
I will say that, they are all "pro" lenses. When I got my 1st L lens that was it for me.
I am OCD, I demand tack sharp images from myself.
To that end I use quality lenses, tripods, wireless remotes, any thing that's helps.
I do have a Canon 100-400mm L coming this Saturday.
When I get a new lens, I try to use it exclusivley for a month.
Kick the tires and see how handles in the cruves.

I read a lot. My favorite author is Terry Pratchett [rip]
I have owned 7 Harley Davidson Motorcycles, The first one I bought when I was 16 was a 61 ci Knuclehead for 350 dollars, My last was a 1953 panhead, It was made the same year I was.
I sold it when my first daughter was born, I figured she needed a dad more, than I needed a scooter.
I have owned dressers and bar burners. Everyone of them rebuilt in my kitchen, every winter, by me.
I did continue to stretch and rake frames. Do Custom builds. Until I retired, I was a Union Pipefitter welder. Frames were for fun and profit.
As far as photography goes, I had sold prints and been paid for events.
I have a working knownledge of my cameras, but I have learned, I can always learn more.
So please forgive me for misspelling lenses

It's weird, SMDV is the name of the company. I had a Vello that was junk. Another brand I can't think of at the moment, I sent that one back. I haven't owned a Yougnuo , so I really can't offer a opinion of it. But I do know the SMDV works great for me, came in a nice pouch also.

No maids in my house, so I get to clean the tub. Its a claw foot tub and it's easy to clean.
I have a MIOPS trigger, it is seriously fun. I bought the slash unit at the same time.
I haven't even begun to figure out everything it can do.
I will though, Winter is coming.
