This may not be what you are looking for, but I've been pleased with the results. After my Dad died, I took many, many boxes of slides from his apartment still in their carousel. I am the family genealogist so I wanted to save those that were of meaning to the family. I did a quick sorting; my Dad was famous for taking photos of complete strangers and landscapes we will never recognize. Of those that remained, I used an app from Photomyne called Slide Scan. It was easy to use and inexpensive. It restores color and does some sharpening. I have also scanned some old photos for which I use a different Photomyne app. Here is their webpage to see if this is something which may be of use to you. https://photomyne.com. Hope this helps.

This is a stunning shot I have a friend in Quebec who is an artist and has a think for red foxes. In fact her studio name is Red Fox Hill studios. I was wondering if I could share this photo with her...she would very much enjoy seeing it. If you agree, please provide information for attribution.

Thanks for sharing this amazing photo!

First, I got my first Mac back in the late 80's and was hooked. Second, I currently use a late 2015 iMac, OS 11.2.3, Big Sur. It came with 16 MB memory, and I recently added another 16 MB for a total of 32MB. Third, I do not know all there is to know about Photos.

However much it helps, this is my editing workflow...I open Photos version 6.0, then take the card out of my camera and insert it in the card slot on my iMac. I now have the option of importing all new photos, or select only the ones I want to import. On the left side of the Photos window is a sidebar with a number of categories. The first is Photos under which are the following "folders:" Library, Memories, People, Places, Favorites, Recents, Imports, and Recently Deleted.

The imported photos are in the Imports folder. In the Imports folder, you can double click on any photo and you now will see buttons on the upper right side, one of which is Edit. When you click on Edit, all the editing tools are available to you.

If I want to share a photo, I select it and click the Share button (In System Preferences >Extentions I check the apps or methods I want to use to share stuff). Alternatively, I drag the photo to the desktop and then drag it into Pages, Mail, Messages, etc.

I have never experienced Photos being locked so I a bit flummoxed on how that happens. If you use the same workflow described above, your edited photos should still be in the Imports folder. If you don't see them there, check the Library folder. I am so sure of this method that I when I eject my SD card, I put it back in the camera and format it. I have never lost any photos.

I also don't leave that to chance. I use iCloud so my photos are available on all my devices, and use TimeMachine to back up multiple times a day. I also back up on another external 5 TB hard drive used exclusively for photos and movies.

I hope I'm not talking down to you, certainly not my intention. My goal is to give you something to compare to in hopes of finding a solution, if not for your immediate problem, hopefully to diminish future problems.

Good luck!

I live in Florida and recognize these birds, as they appear in my yard and neighborhood. You have done a great job capturing them. I am not a photographer, just someone who enjoys taking photos. Most of them are taken on our early morning dog walk, with a leash in one hand and the camera in the other, so I'm sort of a spray and pray kind of shooter. I judge my own photos by how well the bird's eyes are in focus and have a catch light. That's hard in a dark bird with dark eyes, such as your second photo where they eyes are in dark feathers. Your photos are excellent in capturing the essence of the bird!

I pretty mulch shoot on Auto, but have a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX90V, which I like, and which I bought to someday learn how to its manual controls. Not sure I can ever wrap my head around that...

I pre-ordered Luminar for Mac when it first came out, and have updated as updates came out. I then pre-ordered Luminar 2018 at a considerable discount as a previous Luminar user. I have never had a problem with any version. That does not mean to say that I know how to use it; unfortunately, I'm one of those people who learn as the need arises. However, when a need does arise, they have an extensive collection of video tutorials on their own website, and a Facebook support page https://www.facebook.com/search/str/skylum_support/keywords_search. I have also contacted them by email and they responded in good time. Re your comment about paying for it again, when you first purchased it, you should have received an email with a key (a long series of numbers). When you are asked to pay, there should be a place for you to type in your key, which tells them you have paid and you can then download the app. Hope this helps.
