This topic came up in one of my google groups and this resource was recommended. I just placed my first order from them for a Bronica repair manual.

Your comments are welcome!

Keni, I really like the color pallet you have for this image. I also would have thought you started with a flowering garden here. Good work.

Oh, and for the record I did see Iron Butterfly live once. They were really good live.

Dave, thanks for showing the screenprints and providing more information. The features mimic PS and PS Elements when working with layers: blend modes, opacity, masking.

Every main forum discussion topic asking for suggestions for software results in many pages of replies. Something for everyone!

On my Chromebook I have an online app from befunky.com. It is $35/year for all the features (there's also a free version), and includes some ability to do selective edits + a rudimentary section with layers. If I wasn't so in love with Nik Collection (and raw), I'd be tempted to dump my Windows editing laptop.

However, the newest Chromebooks (which run Google Chrome OS) are compatible with many Android apps, so it may be merely a matter of time

I really like #1. Great light and detail.

Glad you like it Keni. The B&W effect in PPP follows the same routine as I outlined above. Depending on the opacity and the blend mode with the B&W image the resulting image can include a bunch of false colors, like so.

I like the effect in the second image best. #3 looks rather busy.

Thank you, I rather like that myself.

In an effort to show what's going on here the image below is a screen shot of the Photo Pos Pro (PPP) work space as it pertains to #2's processing. There is a slider for the level of the effect. And since the altered image can be combined with the original there is a slider for the Opacity of the altered image and a drop down menu to select how the two images get combined. Most of the effects in PPP follow this same type of routine.

I like the look of #1 very much - both the strong contrast on individual branches and the sky gradation, as well. Is that a sensor dust spot in upper left (visible in #2 also)?

Thanks for posting!

May be a dust spot. Here's the original image after Photoshop PP. It's barely visible so I suspect the other conversions brought up the contrast to make it more visible.

Just a couple, or three, images from this a.m. The temp. was about 25 degrees F. The first two are the same image with B&W conversion and Xolorize conversion. The third is a posterize conversion. Initial PP in Photoshop Elements 2018. Conversions in Photo Pos Pro. Shot with Nikon D700, Nikkor-Q 135mm f2.8 lens. Doing a download and + makes for some interesting viewing of these.

As usual, very dramatic and well done, with very good detail in the ground structures and the clouds.

If you want an analog VOM as opposed to a DVM, the standards are the Simpson 260 or the Triplett 630. If you want a decent DVM, Fluke or Simpson or Wavetek - all old-line names that build quality products. I sold test and measurement equipment for 12 years for Tektronix, and the conventional wisdom was Tek for scopes, HP for spectrum analyzers, Wavetek for signal/function generators and John Fluke for DVMs. I have a Wavetek model 27XT (in addition to several Tek TM500 DVMs) that measures frequency, capacitance and inductance as well, and I like it a lot, but my Triplett 630 is still working fine after 45 years.

I spent a lot of time looking at that first image, which is the most interesting to me. I'm wondering if you could have cropped closer to that gear that seems to be your focal point. You would still want to keep the textures of the peeling paint; but there seems to be a lot of negative space in this composition that might not be necessary. The bulk of the machinery comes through in this image. It is clearly very heavy duty stuff;and you brought that out nicely.

Hello Erich, I didn't do any cropping on any of the three. And to be honest it didn't cross my mind (imagine that, duh.) #1 &#2 are both close up images of a rail mounted ladle car that was used to carry molten iron. The #1 image shows the gear detail used to tip the ladle and pour the molten iron out of the kettle.

Thanks, Dave. That is an interesting technique that shows up well using the "double download."

Nice. Is #3 a negative?

Thanks Ed for stopping by and commenting. As to #3, not really even though it looks like it for the most part. Look at my comments to Keni above for the details on how it was done.
