Ok, now let us revisit this conversation. It is now May of 2023. The little tree atop the dead palm is still going and coming in one of nature's way. Those of you who said it was a Ficus are totally correct. I can't believe I missed that one. That tree has now become one of the most inspiring realms of nature that I have encountered. Dead, dry, leafless today but back tomorrow in full leaf. Thank you God for giving me the ability to see such wonders close in and around me.
Some websites says this little Queen is somewhat rare and illusive, even in Florida. She (maybe) has been coming to our carport for several months. I have tried and tried to catch her where I could snap a photo of her. She loves to play on our pickups sideview mirrors looking at herself, then just as suddenly hops back up on the top of the mirror to see if all is well.
Today was one of those times when I sat in the doorway with my camera to my eye (I dont have a trail cam) waiting for the moment. Then it came. She did not see me for a split second and I snapped a couple before she flew away.
She is a beauty. I know I say that a lot. But she is. The photo is not clear but I am fortunate to have gotten this rare shot.
I am thinking she is a Serenity Spell. I searched and searched and as best as I can tell she is.
I was washing dishes in my kitchen which overlooks a storage lot behind my house here in Okeechobee Florida when I saw this beautiful hawk float down to perch on top of the light pole behind my house. This is the first time I'm seeing this beauty up close. I quickly grabbed my Nikon D3200 with a 70-300mm lens to capture this shot. This really made my day.
Don't tell me that among the ugly and disdain items of this world but there cannot be Beauty seen somewhere around. This little flower it's just that. It is one of the most invasive species among the wildflowers found in Florida. And yet I'm sure you see the beauty. Gorgeous. Makes a wonderful photo op.
Thanks. I didn't know I already had the photo on ugly Hedgehog. I'm attempting to take one off. Thank you for observation
This is taken beside Lake Okeechobee here in south Florida and is one of a million scenes of the beauty all around us that we must protect at all cost.
There are many canals that branch off Lake Okeechobee, such as this one. Up those canals are a million beautiful scenes. It looks so serene and peaceful. However, beneath these waters are a number of things to take into account: alligators and snakes. There is safety though, by taking a kayak, canoe or airboat. Just sitting in the boat waiting for something to happen is one of the most rewarding things you can do, that is if you have a camera close at hand. This scene could have been taken years or decades ago, but it was taken recently with my Nikon D3200 with a 55-300mm lens.
I am from Abernathy Texas but I do not live there. I live in Okeechobee Florida right on the largest freshwater lake of the State of Florida.
Here's the whole tree. I'd say it was about 20 ft tall.
Well Batman we have only one problem. That little tree is about 20 feet off the ground over a fence inside another man's pasture. I have no way to ascend to the top of that tree to check out the little tree. Great suggestions but in my case a little bit impossible. Thanks
I will try to take a picture of the whole tree at a distance one of these days and show you

I have been watching this "dead" palm tree for about 2 years. I have watched the woodpecker go in and out of the "pathway thru" the tree. BUT, there's something mysterious about the tree. Atop the dead trunk where once waved the fronds of the tree is another tree that possibly was planted by a bird, or the wind, or something else. It appears to be a citrus tree. Maybe someday I'll take the time to find out. Meanwhile it remains a mystery and gets my attention every time I turn where it is situated.
It's a beautiful shot. I love little ducklings and small birds. Thanks for putting it on and letting me try a name.
