Millions of events, people remained safe as a result of unreported threats by protecting themselves with a firearm without firing it. Search for facts not opinions.

The brain is most important. Me? I’m combat trained, martial arts, Marine, certified firearms instructor and will run and avoid first.

I’ve got nothing to prove fighting some idiot. I have a family to go home to. Unless I have to - trapped, cornered, outnumbered... Then will seek to resolve the situation as peacefully as possible. Up to and including defending myself and stop the bad guy(s) doing evil.

Those without firearms and training have fewer options and may not get home to their families.

I’m also a refuse to be a victim instructor. If a student does not want/can’t use a firearm, still plenty to teach to help them to avoid being a victim in the first place.

That’s the point. In my experience, Anti-gunners do not listen and seem incapable of mature factual conversation.

Keep in mind, a trained armed woman is the equal of any man.

That it a sound an lucid argument. I completely understand your point of view and I agree with you as well.
Thank you for explaining it to me in such a logical and articulate manner

Can you tell me how we could all come together to keep the guns out of the hands of folks that shouldn't have them?
I am assuming that you would agree that some people do not have not the same level sound judgment and training as you?

The only answer cant be arm and try to train everyone or be sure that my Grandchild's 2nd grade teacher is armed.

Sincerely you are a person of good sense and great thought. How do we all solve this problem of gun violence in our society.
I'm not talking about "city" crime. I'm curious as to your views on the increased number of senseless mass shooting with legal guns?

Especially when neither side is will to listen to the other?

No kidding I'm open and listening. Give me a new solution to research and possibility to adopt ?

By the way my crowd already thinks women are equals with or without a gun;-)

You are getting to be harassing and an ass. I carry in case of a problem I hope never happens. If you are a pussy and expect the government plantation to handle your problems then so be it. I and many millions of people can and will handle our own protection WHEN the police are not available.

You are ridiculous. I am done.

Dennis

Ahhh Thank you my friend for explaining it to me.

"I carry in case of a problem"

Got it! Now I understand.
Sorry if my questions have made you feel harassed. I'm just trying to understand ....really.
How else can we hope to coexist ?
Have a good evening. Stay safe, be well and be careful.

So Dennis
Why are you needing to be armed for lunch at Dennys?
Do you carry concealed when out for an evening of fine dining or when watching you Grand kids at the school play?
Seriously ....is it because you can? Or because it makes you feel safe ? Or because you need to?
Honestly educate me, your right I don't get it.....I would love to understand your "tough guy" attitude?
And it does seem to me that you are armed to the teeth because you are afraid of people.
Do you live in an area where most people are bad or out to hurt you?
Which may be true in other less stable parts of the world but not here in the US in 2018
Or are just carrying 24/7 for that one crazy that you might need to shoot?
I don't see the need and I worked in a high crime city area.

PS My family is safe without fire arms and I too Served my country.
But Thank You for your Service.

Don't you just love the feel of the Leica M in your hand .....me too.
Look we have something in common I'll bet there is more;-)

Nothing wrong with firearms that I am aware of.

You have a right to feel safe. I support that right. In this country and many others, you have a right to make yourself safe.

That also a wonderful right. To make yourself safe. Agree..?

So caring a gun makes you feel safe?
Nope. Good judgment makes you feel safe.
Smart decisions should make you feel safe.
Too much bad judgement in the world today

OK this is a photo site ....I really am done
Off to shoot photos on my side of the fence

I have absolutely no animosity or hard feelings and pretty much go along with about everything you have said. But again, my only question is why you are explaining all of this to me. I have taught much of this to others over pretty much the past 40 years. I have lived in ranch country or farm country much of my 72 years. Yes we carried firearms, I still do. But that doesn’t mean we ever pointed the firearm in a threatening or menacing manner.

These days, however, I have seen tourists to the West who see someone in a restaurant carrying a handgun on their hip and they tend to get upset, as if the person is going to suddenly go berserk and shoot up the place. This happens even when there might be a LEO also sitting nearby. The fear some people have about firearms is one of those strange unexplained phenomena of psychological science.

The ACLU is a totally different conversation entirely. They are simply a Left Wing part of a Socialist type government that Democrats have been supporting for years. While they are supposedly looking out for civil liberties for all of us, they don’t recognize the 2nd Amendment at all. Like many of the Liberal mindset they go along with the laws they like which suit their agenda but ignore the rest.

Do you need to be armed to the teeth to kill rabbits or rattle snakes?
And it seems that you have an unusual fear of people that you don't know.

Most problems can and should be solved without guns.....We're talking about photographers! Men and Women with cameras.

As for saying most folks don't get it.
Have you seen the increased level of mass shooting in our country over the past 5 years?
Now exactly why do you need to be armed to have dinner at Denny's ? They have already killed the food for you.

Please don't thank God for your right to carry ....that is crazy! really crazy!
You think those victims and their family are thanking God for the second amendment?
Lets leave God out of this... please for the sake of those murdered by crazies with guns.

Now why do we liberals think your a bit off? How about the simple fact that this is a hobby photo site and we are sharing stories of Art photography and pretty photos.
You keep going back to guns and protecting yourself from strangers. You and you side arms are escalating issues that should be solved by words.
So how long have you been interested in Photography? What kind of camera do you have? Do you own a 3D printer?

You are the biggest and baddest UHH in the forum.
Why are you so afraid of people that you think you need to have a gun?
Do you meet more dangerous people than I do ....I live in a City.
Its got a high murder rate but the people are nice;-)

That is a long post, I believe, chastising me for my post. As an ex LEO and owner of a couple of hundred acres of ranch land, I have had my share of dealing with trespassers on others land as well as my own. On my own land I carried a Remington 870 Police Model, ready to fire as I yelled to the unknown trespasser(s) to come out. He did with his hands up. I had no intention of shooting unless I felt threatened. He had no right to be on my land and he knew it as I had warned him before. When the deputy arrived and asked if I wanted him arrested, I asked the trespasser if I needed to have him arrested or did he get the message. He said he finally understood I was serious. The deputy backed me up and said he would be patrolling my area. If he ever saw the guy again on my land there would be an arrest made.

In the case of me arresting trespassers, another state, I played the same role to that landowner. The trespasser left and a FID, Field Identification Card, was filled out for future reference.

As for the Native American carrying a firearm, I have absolutely no problem with people carrying firearms. My point was that he can only lawfully shoot IF he is actually threatened by the trespasser. Legally he cannot touch the trespasser unless in self defense.

As for the ACLU, they mean nothing to me or most everyone in law enforcement. They are a Communist organization bent on destroying America.

So as the OP asked:
Can I photograph your horses for personal use while standing on a public road? ....or would you shoot me?
Cant you just walk up to the fence and ask me what I'm doing without the weapon drawn?
Seriously HANDS UP!....but I usually don't use a camera strap.
Its not like I mean you, your horses or your land or any harm? I'm just taking pictures over the fence?
Aren't you escalating a perfectly calm exchange of one photographer to another, one human to another?
Maybe we can have a nice chat about your pretty horses, the light or photography?
I'm not quite sure your point is?

One call to the police would trump all our guesses! After all, we are not going to help you pay the ticket! I remember the parkway has signs that say something like "emergency stopping only" but don't know about the state highway.

That is true but don't we always risk someone asking what you are doing every time you put a camera up to our face?
If I passed up every shot that the police would come up to me and ask ......I would have to be a Studio photographer only.

Common sense a good story and a pleasant friendly smile is all part of the hobby.

Go shoot the horse. Maybe the owner will invite you in to photograph the Barn as well?

Of course you can .... for personal use. As long as your not trespassing

But if that horse is Justify hanging out by the fence.
You cant sell the photos to an Ad agency to advertise Victory shoes.
Then you better have a release from someone and permission

My wife and I are considering the Viking Grand European tour for next year. Can an one speak to the cruse itself?
Food, Side trips, Folks, etc..... I usually don't do cruses as I prefer wandering and exploring but we're getting older.
My wife hears good things about Viking......any experienced travelers here?

Opinions welcome and appreciated.

Ahhhh......The joy of the hunt.
40 years of buying camera bags ....this is going to be a long long thread.
Like the perfect meal or the perfect camera the perfect camera bag does not exist.

Some of my faves have been:
Think Tank, Billingham, Temba, Artisan & Artist.
.....my all time 1970s favorite is a US army surplus gas mask bag I used a sock to protect the extra lens.
Second fav for a body and 3 lenses Cannon gave away in the 80's an un padded fanny pack with 2 dividers

If your hiking and doing dirty stuff. Don't be too hung up on your equipment. get a few great light lenses (prime are my choice) and a body that you don't mind replacing from time to time.
Us less your rock climbing your not going to drop your camera bag and odds are if you do no matter the bag its going to break something.

Keep your kit small and enjoy the hike.

small light not too big ....start with temba or think tank.

and enjoy the hunt;-)

Right, a LOT of people underestimated the simmering anger of the marginalized among us. They got a voice and Democratic blacks did not turn out for Hiliary as they did for Barack. There were several Republicans far better but Trump’s behavior during the primaries appealed to those who (understandably) were very dissatisfied with DC. They voted, and even though Trump lost the popular vote, he won the electoral college vote. Fairly.

The trouble is, only some of us see the serious damage being done. He is evicerating our long term alliances and embracing our long term enemies... AND that’s just for starters.

Angry reaction does not make things better... it just changes the focus.

We’re in serious trouble; some see it now, all will eventually see it. Just ask the farmers who voted for him.

Here in NC, where pork and soybeans are billion dollar exports, these farmers are in danger. The difficulties will only expand. I wish I was wrong... I’ll be happy to be proven wrong... but the signs are ominous and, as a country, we are foolish to ignore them.
