We should see some actual examples of your problematic results, with the images stored and the EXIF complete. What you describe in your technique and then your described results do not match. We probably can see something different in the EXIF than you've described in your technique. We then can give actionable ideas, rather than random guesses.

.... "actual examples, with EXIF". This.

Note the use of mirrorless digital cameras, with all their enabling technologies for shooting MF lenses, not the time wasting effort of using a DSLRosaur ....

Time-Wasting is FUN though.... Am I Right??!! .......Yes. I am. That is what I'm doing here on UHH!

I think I would lose points in a cooking competition for 'plating'. Everything on the plate is dark. For the 2nd picture I added a few yellow tomatoes for color.

This was leftovers the next day. Day one was with asparagus but I didn't photograph. This meal we had some leftover sauteed onion and bell peppers, yellow, red and green, from veggie fajitas.

All shot with a cell phone.

Wow!! ... D.Lish! You knocked it outa' the park here, JimmyTB!!

If you had selected "Store Original" when you uploaded the pics I would have more than the 102KB and 110KB files to work with . . .
I have attached my Post Process resulting in files of 6.4MB and 6.8MB files after running through Topaz Photo AI (default settings) and using PhotoScapeX "Auto Color" (default settings) for pics (IMO) with larger files, clarity, and much improved overall.
Both of these picture improvements took <1 minute to process.

If the original pic had been shot using RAW and then uploaded to UHH using the "Store Original" setting I may have been able to do much more.

When I crop a picture the end result is often soft and "grainy". I have a Sony A3000 with a 20MP sensor. I'm using a 18-55 MM lens. Indoor shots with or without a flash. What am I doing wrong?

I'm just curious here.... why are you not cropping with your camera? Get Closer to your subject or Zoom in with that lens. Lots of area of No Consequence in your sample image (THANK YOU for providing that though, by the way!!) Also...get yer tripod out for this type of work!

Also: Look up on your phone or computer: "How to use Flash indoors for portraits".... Utube is your friend!

My first time cooking pork chops on a cast iron griddle on the stove top. They turned out good but I like them better cooked on the Weber kettle grill.

YES!! Those are def good lookin' chops there, Paul B. ... and in total agreement as to the Weber! Charcoal adds a certain je ne sais quoi to meat and veggies cooked on it. Nothin' else like it!

(AND don't get me started about medical concerns of cooking with charcoal.... Big Pharma doesn't know TASTE from a Hole in the Ground.... and they have a prescription ready to sell you for crazy $$$ when they "discover" it!)

Sorry for the morning rant.....

How right you are! You don’t need to have any artistic talent as long as you are a good salesman. Don’t believe me? Jackson Pollak. He literally throws a bucket of paint onto a canvas and calls it art and then gullible people pay big bucks for it. A monkey could throw paint, forge JPs signature and nobody could tell the difference.

Maybe I’m just envious that I didn’t think of throwing paint first.

I got a new LC braiser and then dug out my old Molly Stevens cookbook. I have never had a Boston Butt pork roast before. So I went to my locoal butcher to get a fresh one and not one that was prepackaged. That was after reading about how to buy pork in her cookbook. I have also never tied a roast before. The butcher gave me enough twine to do it. The flavor was very good and the meat was moist and tender. It was very good! I would make another one.

Before searing it and putting it in the oven.

I've posted this several times over the years, and people seemed to appreciate it. A friend of ours had a minor stroke, but she didn't realize it. As soon as my wife spoke to her, she knew her friend had a stroke. She made a full recovery.

Stroke: Remember the 1st Three Letters..... S. T. R.

Stroke Identification
During a BBQ, Jane stumbled and took a little fall. She assured everyone that she was fine and declined the offer of paramedics). She said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital, and at 6:00 PM, she passed away. She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ, and that is why she fell. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within three hours, he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within three hours, which is tough.

Recognizing a Stroke
A bystander can identify a stroke by asking the person to do four simple things:

S - Ask the individual to smile.

T - Ask the person to talk and speak a simple, coherent sentence.

R- Ask him or her to raise both arms.
New one - Have the person stick out his tongue. If the tongue is crooked and cannot be held straight, that is a sign of a stroke.

If he or she has trouble with any one of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Find the nearest hospital with a stroke center.

THIS is great info, jerryc41!! Having had a TIA last May, my wife recognized the symptoms (I honestly did not know what the problem was) and got me to the hospital, pronto. Stroke is not a thing in my family - until me!
~ Fully recovered so that I can't get out of any chores..... Well, I still try though!
