I replaced my MacBook Pro 13" at the beginning of 2021 with the M1 version. I'm more than happy with the amazing performance! The specs for the newer M1Pro and M1Max chips suggest an even higher level of performance.

Hi Royce,
I used to use ACDSee and looked at it again when I decided to move away from Adobe's subscription model. I ended up choosing Luminar AI and Affinity Photo. Affinity can do pretty much anything Photoshop can do. Luminar AI has a fairly nice DAM and updates are pretty regular. There's a new Luminar Neo program coming in the winter that will include layers (AI doesn't have layers, which is one of the reasons I also have Affinity). Luminar AI and Affinity Photo are both pretty easy to use and give me what I want in photo editors for decent prices.

I bought the preorder version in early fall on recommendation of a local ambassador whose photography I follow. I got my invitation to download Luminar AI v1.0.0 a few days ahead of the official release and did so. I'm using it on a 2011 MacBook Pro running MacOS High Sierra. It works like a charm. I'm impressed with how little tweaking is needed to make my images shine. I'm also *very* pleased with Luminar AI's speed. It's a significant improvement over Luminar 4! It's also much easier and quicker to get to the final image than it was with Luminar 4.

To all who have responded so far, Thank You very much. I was hoping someone might have used or have a comment on the small machines that view and digitize the slides. I have looked at the Epson scanners and thought that may be the answer but they are rather pricey for just this project. I agree that setting up a light table and viewing groups of slides with a loupe may be the quickest way to weed out the obvious rejects.

I've tried a couple of the small viewer/digitizers and found that they give poor results. The images that I've digitized are pretty washed out and blurry (the slides are higher quality than the scans). My next project will be to build a small frame to hold the slides, an extension tube on my 55mm lens, and use a daylight LED bulb (13 watt) to illuminate the slides from behind.

You'll have to open Photos on the Mac, select all 10k of them (or use smaller segments like a year if you like), and export them using the File menu. You should be able to select the external drive as the destination. With 10k photos, I expect it will take a while.

You should plan for a stop at the National Museum of Wildlife Art just north of Jackson. You have to watch for the signs because from the highway it looks like a small ruin. Inside, however, it’s spectacular! Bronze castings greet you before you get inside. Piles of art by Western artists, including a massive painting by Robert Bateman (The Chief) of a bull bison in a blizzard that takes up an entire wall. https://www.wildlifeart.org/

Wow...she stretched Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered to 8 minutes!! She was/is an amazing jazz pianist. Thanks for posting.

But if the answer is forty-two, why is the question "what do you get if you multiple six by nine?"

I tried to figure that out once upon a time...and it works in base 13. But Douglas Adams claimed that it was just a coincidence.

I'm using the Kanex unit and am quite happy. My early 2011 MacBook Pro gets along just fine with the adapter.

As far as photo organization, I use Photos on the iMac and keep backup copies in folders in the Pictures area. Looking forward to what will be added to Luminar.

I bought Luminar 2018 shortly after it was announced based on all the great reviews. Last week I started using Photos on MacOS High Sierra and am finding it to be a solid pairing. Photos allows you to use Luminar as an external editor, so it handles all the file transfers in the background. This version of Photos is much more advanced than earlier versions with several editing tools built-in.

The new Photos app in High Sierra looks like a reasonably good DAM with a fair number of editing tools built in. I have both Affinity and Luminar 2018 and both of them link into Photos as external editors and Affinity will also operate as a variety of plug-ins.

I'm using the f6.3 version on my D7200 and love it. It performs well and is light enough to carry all day!
