I am looking for a good quality camera that I can use when kayaking, I have the Nikon D500 and the Sony A7R2, I like a nice quality photo, I can not see myself putting an expense camera in a bag! Or spending 1k on a housing, any thoughts on the GoPro5 or a water proof point &shoot, I will be on the intercoastal water ways and in the mangrove s in Florida. Thanks for your thoughts.

When I was contemplating a kayak camera I decided that my Canon 7D w/70-200mm would be just the right choice. I deal with the waterproof issue by using a Plano case placed between my legs and tethered to the boat. The case allows fast and convenient access to the camera without the hassle of a waterproof bag. I also have an Olympus Tough tethered to the boat for instant access.

Steve, the effect of which you speak is achieved by using an aperture to create a very shallow depth of field that blurs background. Very fast lenses allow the user to select apertures in the range of f/1.2 or f/1.4 that give extremely shallow d-o-f. By doing so the background is basically out of focus and sometimes will appear completely black. (The system has prevented me from posting a photograph that would exemplify an elimination of the background). No lectures please, the system screwed up twice.

I believe the "system" is not cooperating because you are attaching Canon raw files rather than jpegs.

I can bake if I need to or want to. Very tasty bread when it is desired! It's called the vanishing point and/or leaving the idiots in a cloud of dust. Something that you clearly don't comprehend.

When you actually have a fast vehicle you get used to the idiots with a basic vehicle with a spoiler on the back and a paint job on it trying to play silly buggers with you. People that actually have fast vehicles and can drive them recognize the others, they don't need to play games. Especially when it comes to twisty roads and going around corners.

Those that own fast vehicles and know how to drive them safely very seldom play games, since the consequences can be severe. There is a time and a place for everything, and public roads are not the place. I've met very few drivers that can drive safely at over 100 mph, let alone 140mph.

I observe the incompetent drivers every day.

Don't mess with it unless you know what you are doing, and not on public roads.

I am mystified how you can ascertain my level of comprehension by one comment on a photography forum. However, my comprehension is clear enough to realize that George Bernard Shaw was accurate when he advised: "I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it."
I am anticipating more insightful counseling from your vast storehouse of knowledge.
As for your advanced driving ability, I won't call you a cowboy until I've seen you ride.

I don't need to feel like a racing driver based upon decals and paint. If I want to feel like that I have a rear view mirror!

Does baking up make you feel like a race driver?

My kayak camera in an Olympus Tough TG-870. I keep it tethered to the boat with a ~4' cord. I often take my Canon 6D in a Plano ammo box [url]https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P3WS02/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1[url] positioned between my legs in the boat and tethered with a cord. I access that camera when I am floating stable, otherwise the box is sealed. The little Olympus is handy for quick shots of water birds and other critters. The Canon with a wide angle lens is great for water level panoramas.
The criteria for a vest is mainly comfort. All the approved vests will keep you afloat. As mentioned, get a vest designed for kayaking.

Thought I was alone in my opinion that causing waves and waterfalls look like cotton is not a picture. It may be an artform, but it does not depict the scene. Waves and waterfalls aren't made of cotton candy. Videos are for motion while photographs, for me, are a slice of reality, a static moment in time. Race cars and running people photographed while panning the camera is a different story. I use the same shutter speed that I would choose if the car were parked, not a prolonged exposure.
Moving water that is a bit soft or blurry from using a "normal" exposure has the same effect as the blurry background of a panned photo. It portrays the motion without looking "phony".

Nice picture. I wonder how it would look if you lowered the camera a bit and get the roof ridgeline above the horizon. That nasty snow has probably melted by now and that will make the picture better for the viewer, at least for me.
