Merlin Bird ID app suggested an oriole, also. Bullock's Oriole or female Baltimore Oriole. I believe it being wet made it darker than expected.

The feathers would also be fluffed up, making it look plumper.

Very Beautiful sky. Thanks for sharing!I think Cindy I need to move to Montana to get those beautiful sky colors in evening.

Not necessary. I have a similar shot taken in Corona, CA. Just takes a sunset shining on rain clouds.

Yes, I could see that coming.

You eventually get to a point in life where it can be hard to find an "older woman" who is still able to get around.

Funny story. We used to go to a campground in NH every summer, and we got to know the other campers. One favorite was a woman near 80 who pulled her trailer, and ran her powerboat around the lake. One day we were talking to her, and she said, "Well, my mother's coming for a visit, and she wants to go out in the boat." We all laughed. A few hours later, her mother arrived, and they went out in the boat. Some families have longevity on their side. Looking back over my family history, most of my predecessors died in their early 80s, so I have a few years left.

I may be on borrowed time. My mother passed at 55, Dad at 84, but his mother was 103. I'm 73.

Those roots might not belong to the tree in the canopy. Strangler figs grow from seeds that land on another tree and surround the original tree, sometimes killing it.

From an evolutionary standpoint, of what use are those wide horns? It would certainly make navigating in the brush and trees problematic, and theY point in the wrong direction for either defensive or offensive use. Just asking ....

Stan

They were bred for the horns to make a larger target for a rope, so it is not a natural result.

While gulls are lovely in flight there are some serious problems for those who live with them around. For a time I worked in an office in an old shopping center that had rented unused commercial space to my company. (We later moved to a newer building.) The parking lot had a lot of gulls that would perch on the light standards. Lots of messy droppings on cars in some areas. Some of my fellow workers had lived close to the coast at one time. Their term for gulls was “sea rats”. The center later was remodeled as non-covered (the trend at the time) with a street where the center aisle used to be.

I use Microsoft Word (or similar program) to spell and grammar check. In Word if something is misspelled it gives you alternative words. This way avoids the problem with dictionaries that you have to know how to spell a word before you can find it!

I looked on Amazon and saw some e-books, but I don't have a Kindle and I'd rather have an actual book in my hands than read on a screen (call me old-fashioned I guess). I think the Gary Friedman book was around $50 and almost 1000 pages, though. Just saw that bn.com has it for $53. I still have to get a hotshoe adapter and a battery grip (always wanted one of those) too...but It'll feel like Christmas in June when FedEx pulls up. Buying the camera for my birthday (Monday) since my trip to Spain and Portugal was cancelled due to COVID-19 (was supposed to leave last Friday). Still waiting for my refund from Air France!! Decided to use my credits and changed to Ireland for the same time next year. I think I'll take both cameras out tomorrow (if it's not too dark) and shoot a lily or mushroom or something with each camera and the same lens (maybe my 105 macro) and compare them for detail.

I love my Samsung tablet for reading books. HUGE advantage is that you can adjust the print size according to your sight. Even adjust pictures to see details you would miss otherwise.

Just to be on the safe side there is a product called something like Quake Hold readily available in California (earthquake country). It is a putty like substance (solid color or clear) that holds things to shelves or tables. It is easily removable if you need or want to do that. Not sure where it could be obtained where you live.

That is for when you cannot wash your hands. Like going into a grocery store, coming out etc. Also faster in situations where moving in or out of a store would be held up.

I find that to keep my blood pressure at healthy levels is it better to assume that people have a non-obvious handicap, like a heart problem. There are those who are barbarians, but it is not worth the aggravation.
