If I am going out with something specifically in mind, such as BIF, I'll take the appropriate equipment.

If just out to shoot whatever I might come across, I find that my creativity can be sparked simply by limiting my equipment. That is to say, pick a lens, then go out into the world and view it from that angle. My first surprise from doing this is how many nice landscapes can be captured using a long lens. When using shorter lenses, I may tend to "zoom with my feet" more frequently, but there's nothing wrong with that unless you are somehow prohibited from getting closer to your subject.

True, I have found myself sometimes wishing the I had a different body/lens combination, but I found that when taking enough gear to handle any situation that I frequently would only use a fraction of the gear, while having to lug all of it along all the time.

I carry my camera in the tank bag on my bike. I shaped some foam for the inside to cushion and hold the camera in place. Works great for those shots where you don't want to get off the bike...unzip, shoot, zip and you're back on the road.

I had to read through the instructions a couple of times myself - they were a bit confusing if you ask me.
I'm eagerly awaiting future developments with Canon mirrorless offerings. The RP is mighty tempting simply because of its price point, but my next purchase will probably be a lens rather than another body.

I also shoot with an Olympus m4/3 system which I love because of it's smaller lenses, but have to admit that its higher ISO performance is quite lacking when compared to the 5DIV. And I have yet to find anything that fits my hand as comfortably and effectively as Canon bodies. Love 'em!

I guess I'll just keep shooting with what I have and wait to see what new and exciting things come in the future.

You may want to check the firmware update instructions again. I just went through the process with my 5D mIV. It looks like the minimum size card needed is in MBs, not GBs. Also, though you can update with the camera connected to a computer this is not necessary. I just update to version 1.1.2 using just a 64GB sd card without any camera to computer connection.

Hope this helps you get updated sooner!

I appreciate your posts about your EOS R. I'm mighty tempted to get one, though my 5D mIV certainly is capable of doing all I ask of it...

I have thought about the 24-70mm 2.8 L II but my hands can be a bit shaky at times so I am a bit concerned about lack of IS. Do you think I am being overly concerned? For my own reasoning I will not consider the 3rd party lenses with IS. Jave had issues in the past on other cameras.

I have the 24-70 2.8 L II for my 5D IV and it is on the camera most of the time. I understand your concern about it not being stabilized, however the high ISO capability of the 5D IV makes this a moot point. The lens is extremely sharp and very versatile. If I could have only one lens for the camera, this would be it.

I have the EM-1 MKII and use the Pana 100-400mm lens for bird pics. The 100-400 is just a tad soft at 400mm, but sharpens up almost immediately at shorter focal lengths. I have found the auto focus to be pretty good, but not as good as my full frame Canon.
I like the flexibility of the 100-400 zoom, but sometimes wonder if I would have been happier with the Oly 300mm f4.
The IBIS is almost miraculous in eliminating any shake. Shooting hand-held at 400 mm is no problem at all, even with longer shutter speeds when shooting perching birds in partial light.

I've done the firmware update to my em-1 mkII and my pro lenses. I have not encountered any problems, however, I do not own the 300mm Pro or the teleconverter. Sorry to hear you're having this problem. Good luck getting it sorted!

If you are viewing the most recent set of photos that you have imported, then want to return to that group after viewing a filtered set from your catalog, select "previous import" under the Catalog heading in the Library mode. This will take you back to the most recently imported set of photos.

Hope I understood what you would like to accomplish.

Hey, PK. Seems like we have similar interests and taste. I also upgraded from a 7D to the 5D mIV. I've had mine for about a year and love it. I also ride a BMW GS ('14 1200) and there's nothing I enjoy more than combining my two greatest interests. I think you'll find the transition from the 7D to the 5D4 reasonably easy. I predict you will come to love the touch screen. Have fun riding and shooting!

I too am an Oly owner. What components of the image stabilization work with this combo? Camera obviously yes but does it have in-lens and does it work with Oly? Did a google search and couldn’t be sure. TX in advance.

You can use either the in body IS or the in lens IS, but they do not work in concert like the Oly 12-100 f/4.

I haven't done any in depth testing, but my experience has been that there is not much difference in effectiveness between the in lens and the in body IS. I expect one has an edge over the other, but they are pretty close.

Understanding that you have Canon gear, I'll still offer the suggestion of taking a look at the m4/3 systems. Although I also have Canon gear, I find that for BIF, the Olympus OMD E-M1 II with the Pana/Leica 100-400 is a great combination especially when weight is a consideration. The reach is tremendous and it's hard to beat the image stabilization when using such a long lens. Good luck!

I have been the very happy owner of the Canon 100mm 2.8 L IS for several years now and couldn't be more pleased. Have used it on both crop and full frame bodies with excellent results.

Sorry but I have to disagree with your assessment. I have a Canon 5d my iii and an Olympus em1 mk II and I have canvas prints 24 by 30 hanging in my house and I would challenge you to tell which came from which camera. Other than the low light performance of the Canon I really don’t see much difference.

Here's another vote for the Olympus EM1 mkII. I purchased an Oly EM5 MkII for the express purpose of cutting down on weight compared to my Canon DSLR and EF lenses.
The EM5 proved to be a bit too small to be a good fit for my hands. After quite a bit of agonizing I pulled the trigger on the EM1 Mk II which I found to be a much better ergonomic fit for me.

I love this camera and the pro series lenses from Olympus. While the IQ isn't quite up to my full frame Canon, it is none the less very close, especially at ISO 200. It isn't quite so good once you start getting into a higher ISO range, say over 800, but the image stabilization allows you to use extremely slow shutter speeds and keep your ISO low under many circumstances. I highly recommend this M43 set-up as an excellent way to reduce the size and weight of your gear.
