But why do you do it via PM?
If you have something to impart, why not let EVERYONE benefit from learning instead of just one individual?
I can understand if that person said to PM some info.
Otherwise it takes away from why we have public forums in the first place!

My thought too.

They look like oil spots to me. Get the sensor cleaned professionally and fingers crossed the sensor hasn't been damaged by your home cleaning method.

Thanks Shakey. It's the PhaseOne Capture One 11 I am really interested in. The way they go about skin tones seems more precise with incremental adjustments. They have a 30 day free trial. I am waiting till I do another model shoot then try it out. I think there will be a model work shop coming soon. Software price is steep for first time buyers.

I really like what you did Brian. I have been looking at Capture One for some time now. I think the learning curve is huge though and I am 72. From what I see Capture one is use much more extensively on your side of the world.

Thank you. A RAW file would have been much better as a starting point I'm sure! I have only been using C1P in earnest for about 18 months, however I had dabbled with it over many previous years. It is well worth the effort to learn it and there are masses of tutorials online and I still attend many of the webinars they do on a regular basis. The upgrade to version 11 was a huge improvement over an already very capable product. The layers features are now fantastic. Try it, I'm a year ahead of you in age and wish I had taken more trouble with it earlier. There is a 30 day free trial and many of the Capture One ambassadors have discount codes to ease the cost.

Thanks for the tips Douglass. A larger DOF would bring the proboscis, antennae and front legs into focus so I would use a smaller aperture next time. I think I will be more relaxed on a future opportunity so will experiment some more. One question about flash if I may: given the often fleeting window of opportunity of many subjects and perhaps a need to quickly change position/angle when handheld, is there not a place for ETTL?

Thanks rafiki, I am very pleased with your effort.

Thanks. Viewing it later in the day I thought it still too bright so I toned it down a bit further...

Not too shabby! Next post, please add ISO, shutter duration, and aperture. Is your speedlight mounted on camera hotshoe, or off to side? Do you use a diffuser on speedlight?
Good morning Nikonian72. Thank you.
In fact the EXIF data is attached to the download. In case you are unable to access it, I have attached a screenshot. The flash is an old Canon 550EX with a diffuser. The beetle was walking about in a small, translucent ice-cream tub and the flash was unattached, standing upside down resting on its head, butted up to the wall of the tub so the light was double diffused. It was fired remotely ETTL using a Canon ST-E2 trigger. The 5DS R was handheld Manual. Oh, and the lens was a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS macro with AF switched off.

Capture One Pro 10. I am sure a RAW file would have achieved a more pleasing result.

I'm not from Florida Brian. I just happened to spend the day with a researcher from an environmental institute down there and I was complaining about all the invasive insects and plants we have in Pennsylvania and your Palm Beetle was one of the invasive she described to me as being a real problem in her state.

Once you have Lightroom running your photo library database it is hard to make a switch.
