I also have a T4i. I used the EOS utility software that came with the camera to change to a 5 digit file number.
Plug in your camera, bring up the software, select Preferences - File Name - Assign Sequence No. - Number of Digits 5 (or more). You can also select the starting number. In your case something over 10000.
