Like a lot of people, whenever I go on a photo trip where I am spending multiple days photographing, I like to take a lap top with me. Every night I will copy the images to my lap top to review the photos. I don’t spend much time tweaking them, but I review to see what they look like and if, maybe I need to reshoot at that location. I do most of the work on the images on my desktop when I get home. My lap top has failed and needs to be replaced. My family is suggesting that I buy an iPad instead of a lap top. I have found out that Lightroom will work on an iPad. Has anyone used an iPad in this way and/or what would be your recommendations concerning this issue?

Thanks. I'll have to look at my photos and see whioch lens I use the most - probably the 24-105.

My wife and I are going on a bus tour of New England this fall. This is not a photo workshop or photo tour so I don’t expect to be getting up early for dawn shots or having the time to set up my tripod to take the type of shots I would take if this was a photo tour. I am thinking about purchasing the Canon 24-240 Rf lens to use on the tour. I have a good assortment of lens (24 f/1.4, 16-35 f/4, 24-105 f/4, etc) but was thinking that I wouldn’t be able to take several lenses and have the time (or space in a carry on) to switch lenses when the landscape dictates. Therefore I was wondering if any one had any suggestions or had purchased the Canon 24-240 lens and had concerns about using that lens . BTW - I am shooting a Canon R5.

We found a list of waterfalls in the Gorge. The list showed 26 waterfalls. We have a list of 12 we are going to visit with another 6 to 8 possible water falls . We are not into long or strenuous hikes (we are 68 and 70 years old).

Planning a trip for two amateur photogarphers to the Columbia Gorge and the Oregon coast in May. In the Columbia Gorge, we will be mainly looking to photograph waterfalls. How many days should we set aside for the Gorge ? The remainder of our ten day trip will be spent photographing the Oregon coast.

I just purchased the Canon R5. I loved back button focus on previous Canon cameras and am setting up the R5 for it. I thought I had it set up correctly, however, when I try to focus, I get a white square that I use as a focus point. However, when I try to set the focus point, I see a number of smaller green squares somewhere around the display. Can I anyone tell me what either I am doing wrong, or some step on back button focus set up that I have missed.

I will be trying to get some good milky way shots this spring and summer. I own a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 lens that I have used for these shots in the past. I have just found that Sigma now has a 20mm f/1.4 lens for sale. The question becomes will I get substantially more with the 20mm lens than I am getting with the 24mm lens?. I don’t mind buying the wider lens IF it means better photos but I sure don’t want to spend the money for minimal differences. If it makes any difference, I am shooting a Canon 5D mark IV.

A good friend and I are considering flying out to Portland and photographing the Columbia Gorge. For anyone that has done that or lives in the area:
How many days should we schedule to get the most out of the gorge?
What time of year would you recommend?
What areas of the Oregon coast would you also photograph in the immediate area?
Thanks in advance for any insights and recommendations.

A question has been brought up while trying to shoot the milky way having to do with how to set up the interval timer on a Canon camera (5D Mark Iv and 80D in particular). I have read the Canon manual and it is not plain (at least to me).
When I set up an interval, is it the interval between the start of one photo and the start of the next photo OR
is it the interval between the end of one photo and the start of the next.
As an example, in the first case, I am shooting a night shot 20 seconds in duration and I want 2 seconds between shots, I would set up the interval to be 22 seconds. In the second case, same shot length (20 seconds), I set up the interval timer to be 2 seconds.
Any help on which way the camera is suppose to be set up is appreciated.

We plan on leaving Arkansas on June 18 and taking 2 weeks. Hope this is the right time period to go!

The map almost exactly mirrors the route I was considering. We will be going to the Grand Tetons through Nebraska and coming back through South Dakota. I just want to make sure I don’t miss something very photogenic close to the route that I might not be aware of.

Two of us old timers (60+) are planning a trip from Arkansas to Wyoming next summer. Thinking about traveling through Kansas and continuing up into Nebraska, instead of going through Colorado (been there, done that). I am looking for sights to shoot from North Platte, Nebraska to Jackson, WY. Is there anything to see/shoot by continuing on I 80 over to Rock Springs versus going up to Scottsbluff and Casper. Anything I need to stop and see along either route? The trip, as now planned, is Grand Tetons (4 days), Yellowstone (4 days), Beartooth Pass on the way to Devil’s Tower, then on to the Black Hills. Thanks in advance for any insights.

I've used two or three different batteries. No luck. Thankfully my old 60D is still working so I will have something to use if/when the 5D III gives up the ghost. I looked on line about an estimated cost of repair and it was around $450.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it - it didn't work.

Recently I have come across a problem with my Canon 5D Mark III. About half the time, when I try to turn my camera on, it doesn’t – no indications at all. Other times it turns on like normal. When it won’t turn on, I can remove the battery and replace it and it turns on. At times, the focus point will not move like it should – it refuses to go up (or down) as I want it to, it just doesn’t move. I cannot format the SD card, but I can format the other card. I also cannot erase the SD card. At times, the camera refuses to take a photo, when I push the shutter release, the camera says “busy” until I turn the camera off. Has anyone had a similar problem. Not sure whether to get the camera fixed or wait for the 5D Mark V/R5.
