I have an R5 and all my flashes work with it. Canon 580EX II & 430EX (yes, the 430EX is quite old and the original), Yongnuo 565EXII & 568EXII all work today (although I had to clean the battery contacts in both the Yongnuo flashes to get them to power up). I have not tried my old Vivitar 283 on it. I kept it for old time's sake.

I use my Galaxy S23 Ultra as my go to camera these days (the Canon R5 sits unused most days).

Transferring photos is easy after you learn the steps. I keep a USB-C cord plugged into my USB port on the front panel of my desktop for the phone or the Pro Grade card reader. I make sure the phone is logged into before I start any transfer. The first time the phone is used for transferring data, it may prompt you to allow the connection. Once this is answered it usually remembers the next time(s) you hook up and log in.

From File Explorer, find the phone under This PC (I am using Windows 11) in the left hand side. Click on the phone and on the right hand side, an icon Internal storage should display. Double click on this icon (Internal storage) and you will have many folders. Double click on the DCIM folder. The Camera folder should be there. I usually click on the Camera folder, Screenshots folder, and Facebook folder (If I saved any photos from Facebook) and do a Cut (CTL-X). I then move to the folder I want to paste (CTL-V) these folders in. I rename the folders and pictures. I then copy and paste these new folders to any backup drives. Email is the slow way and used mainly for showing others of our great works of art (just kidding).

I had purchased a Gitzo tripod from Amazon one year and a Gitzo monopod the next year. Very pleased with the shipping and of course the items. I had not realized that the vendor was Adorama when I made these purchases on Amazon. I bought several other items over the years and was very pleased with both Adorama and Amazon.

Then I bought two lenses (total $2,000) from the same source and tracked the shipping (UPS, I think at the time) come all the way to Atlanta, and then returned to the vendor. What happened? The only explanation from UPS (canned message on their website) was the label either fell off or was smudged. Seems like they could've reached out to Adorama about the address since they had the tracking number. Oh well, that was then.

I started a chat session with Adorama when I could expect the lenses to be shipped back to me. The agent was none too friendly - he said I would have to order them again because any returns went back on the shelf. I told him to just cancel the order then. I immediately ordered the same items from B&H and paid extra for 2-day shipping.

The problem is my credit card was on the hook for an order with Adorama and B&H. I tried to explain to Adorama what was going on and they didn't reply. I brought Amazon into the fray and explained my situation. They told me to contact the vendor. I told them I already did that. I finally told them to make it right or I would get the credit card company involved. They asked me to wait for 48 hours which I did. It was still not fixed, and they asked for an additional 24 hours. They finally got it taken care of. Thank you, Amazon, and the clout of a credit card.

I have ordered some items from Adorama since then, but I am more cautious since by ordeal with them years ago. I found out I can order straight from the manufacturer and get the items faster than the camera stores for the same price.

have you ever, on a long driving trip, stopped at an interstate rest stop, exited out the wrong door ( on the other side of the facility ), and noticed someone had changed the whole layout? Like they had rotated the whole dang place...
and your car is Not where you put it? w0{ndering if you had entered a highway twilight zone?

Nope. Not me either.

It happened to us at the Atlanta Airport over 35 years ago. We took my wife's sister and her husband to the airport and parked in the short term parking deck. This was before security so we could see friends and family to the gate. I think we were at the airport 2 hours or more. When we got back to the terminal, we followed the signs to the parking deck. Our car was gone! What do we do in this situation. We go back to the terminal to report our car was stolen to the authorities. I noticed a sign that said south parking lot, and turned to see where we just came from - north parking lot. Hmmm? We went to the other parking lot and there was our car. The lots were identical in numbering and decks, except one was N and the other was S. Scary times.

If you have a Smart phone, then Google Maps has a neat feature - drop a pin where you park. You have to remember to do this before you go too far. I read recently that the updated Maps will automatically do this for you. This will be a great addition.

I can remember paying 17 cents per gallon of gas . . . in Rhode Island when I was 21 years old and in the Navy. Sea store cigarete price was 9 cents a pack. I bought a new twin lens Rolleiflex from my ship store for $150. When I was discharged at age 23 in Norfolk, VA I bought a new Plymouth Fury for $2808. . . . full dealer price including sales tax and new Virginia licence plates. Hamburgers were readily available for 19 cents. I think coffee was 5 cents a cup to buy. My dad bought a old stucco house for our family to live in 1946 in Seattle for $8000. which has a value of more than $1,000,000. today. Unbelievable . . . yes . . . if one lives long enough to witness it.
I can remember paying 17 cents per gallon of gas .... (show quote)

What years were you in the Navy? I was in the Navy 72 to 76 and stationed in Norfolk from 73 until I got out. The first OPEC embargo (73) had very long lines and gas went from 33 cents to over 60. We often got some time off from work just to buy gas (most stations closed around 6 PM in Norfolk). My wife and I had a few rolls of pennies in case we ran out of money before payday. That was not a fun time.

What about one time zone for all the US? Some other large countries that would occupy several time zones have mandated just one time for the whole country. Could make things simple.

I like that idea and wished the entire world would just go to an international date and time. Forget about the sunrise and sunset as a standard of time of day (the old farmer's time legacy).

When I was in the Navy a lifetime ago, not only did we have DST, but aboard the ship I was on we had "summer hours" which meant reporting to duty an hour earlier. That meant I got off around 3 PM for the rest of the day, unless it was my duty day.

I prefer using international time, whether Zulu or GMT and adjust our work day, school day, appointments accordingly. I know this would confuse most people on how to set their clocks, but once done, it would be like eating cake.

Midnight is the same no matter where on earth you are. Seven AM is the same no matter where you are. The only difference is the arbitrary time you set for a schedule. If you are in EST and you had to be at work at 8 for example, now you would have to be there at 8 + time offset from GMT which in the east would be 8 + 5 = 13:00 or 1 PM GMT. Sounds hard to begin with, but over time, it would be simple to get with the program.

When communicating with folks in different time zones, we have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to get our schedules to coordinate with theirs. We had a vendor from Israel and had to interface with them at times so it was important to agree on time and time zone.

The same could be said for international travel. Thailand is around 12 hours apart from us but they are on the west side of the international date line. This is important when returning from Bangkok around midnight (Thailand time) to know what date you need to be there for your flight (this happened to one of our relatives who missed her flight as she showed up a day late). Similarly, Okinawa is one of the last time zones of the new day, so it was easier to NOT miss your flight if you didn't keep up with the local time and date.

I have the same gear - Canon 80D and Samsung 23 Ultra+, but while I have the phone with me all the time and it does a great job at photos, it falls apart zooming in and some photos look a bit "plastic-like - skin is smoothed out". I don't use the 80D that much these days since I got the R5 about 3 years ago, but I am not ready to give up on it yet.

For hiking the phone is usually the best option due to weight and size. For wildlife that is far away, the phone just doesn't cut it.

Traveling abroad, I just take a lightweight compact/bridge camera and the phone is always there for most of the photo ops.

"I Spit On Your Grave" is both horrorific and violent (revenge). There are at least 3 in the series.

"The Evil Dead" (at least a couple of sequels of it) and the spinoff "Ash vs. Evil Dead" (funny, violent, monsters, etc.)

Your mention of Cave Springs brings back memories when I used to go through there between working at a power plant in Coosa and home (Marietta).

Cave Springs is or was a one light town. I have gone through it a few times over the years. I used to visit the Georgia School for the Deaf as a friend was the greenhouse manager at the school to teach young people a skill in growing plants (I found him years later after going through this town a couple of times)

I will never forget my first trip through there as I was headed home from Coosa, Georgia (there was a power plant at this location). One of the guys at the plant advised me to try this way as his sister lived in my area and went this way most of the time. When I got to a four way stop sign, the directions were not clear - right was Alabama as I recall, left was going back to Rome, GA which I did not want to go back to, so straight through was it. I went for a few miles until it dead-ended on to Booger Hollow Road (the name was ominous, so I chose to go back to the same 4 way stop and head towards Alabama and then turned south to Cedar Town).

I don’t use an L-bracket very often, so I went for a Sunfoto (~$50], which does the job for a whole lot less than the big boys. And has the same plus and minuses. For example, most don’t allow complete use of the Canon rear. flip LCD. I don’t have Jerry’s mount dilemma. I’m all Arca-Swiss, which can be tricky. All Arca-Swiss aren’t the same.

I am wholeheartedly with you on this. I have a Gitzo tripod and Gitzo monopod with RRS ball head and monopod head as well. I bought the RRS L brackets for my Canon 40D and then the 7D with grip (cha-ching, cha-ching), and their 100-400 lens foot bracket. When I got an 80D to replace my fried motherboard 7D, I decided to go with the Sunwayfoto L-bracket for a whole lot less money. When I got my R5, I bought the same vendor's L-bracket for the camera (fits nicely). I bought Neewer foot brackets for my 2 RF long zoom lens and the 800mm. L-brackets and lens plates are just pieces of machined metal that fit nicely with the RRS heads for a lot less $$$ than RRS. I keep my L-brackets on the camera all the time as they aren't that heavy and have mounting threads for other gear such as Black Rapid straps and Cotton Carrier CCS hub. I must remove the hub to use the L-bracket on a tripod though - so the hex key stays inside my bag when I plan on using a tripod. Ah, the joys of photography.

I bought the Canon intervalometer (TC-80N3 with the N3 - 3 pin connector) over 17 years ago for my first DSLR - the 20D. That worked for the 40D & 7D, but when the 7D quit working; I bought the 80D to replace it, it used the mini plug. I didn't want to spend any more money on a working intervalometer, but I found an adapter cord that connected the N3 end to a 2.5 mm jack connector. The N3 connector (not to my liking) was at an angle, but it worked well enough. My R5 uses the N3 type connector when I want to use my old TC-80N3. The adapter cord can be found at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc. for around $10.
