Hello everyone

I am not a professional photographer, and have a lot to learn. That being said, I have sold a number of pictures over the last years by being lucky. But I have been having more problems than usual lately, and while I have a pretty good average of my pictures accepted by photo agencies, more lately have been not accepted than in the past. I have taken a much more critical look at my pictures lately, and am not happy with them. I feel it is time I learned to step up to a new level. Lately, the pictures have seemed noisier than usual, need more sharpening, which seems to increase noise, and when viewed on a 70 inch tv at 100% I see some color fringing, usually white or grey, around the limbs of trees and such. I am using a mirrorless camera with a professional 24-105 lens. I never used to notice this, but I do now. Getting rid of that fringe could take me a lot of time if I could do it at all. Especially around numerous tree branches. I am submitting a picture that I hope that those who have the time can give me severe criticism of the following picture, and/or suggestions for improvement. I realize that that does take time for people to do, and I do appreciate it.

Anyway, I wonder what criticisms can be thrown at this particular picture. It looks much brighter on my tv than on my pc, so I have darkened it some. I have, to a small amount decolored it as well, but not too much. I also cropped in on the bottom just a little due to a wall I thought was just a little distracting.

Any help would be appreciated.
Hello everyone br br I am not a professional phot... (show quote)

More fundamentally, I don't understand exactly what this image is showing me. Is this a rising ramp to the sun? Please explain. Until I know that, it's hard to judge anything else. But then, why bother. It's a non-starter for me.

You responded to my query about printing on canvas and recommended suppliers. You referenced a website which you identified only as FAA. Could you please be more specific about that, such as providing the entire web address or name of the service?

Thank you much for your earlier reply.

I am considering having some well-toned black and white photos printed by a service that prints on canvas and wraps the canvas around the frame. I would appreciate responses from anyone having done this and their thoughts on the quality and value of the product. I would like to obtain names of printers you would recommend and those you wouldn't. I am particularly concerned about a canvas print's ability to render contrast, saturation and detail. Thanks to all those who choose to reply.

Beautiful shots. I remember living for a few weeks in a motel with my mother in St. Augustine florida, probably in late 1945. My dad's navy ship, the LST 521, of which he was an officer, was docked nearby awaiting decomissioning. I still have memories of fear and fascination for the alligator farm. How that old one might relate to what exists today I have no idea. We would walk from the motel past the farm and past the carcass of an old burned out bus, which also caused me concern. Then we would stop to watch the donut making machine in a corner shop window. It automatically stamped out the donuts one at a time from a slab of dough and dropped them into a (I suppose) a vat of frying oil. Early and fascinating automation. I just had to relate these memories, but the real story here is your fantastic photos. Congratulations on your achievements.

Thank you for your replies. It turns out that bsprague was correct, although I finally figured this out on my own. I was printing with the windows 10-supplied driver. When I reinstalled the Canon Pro 100 using the drivers on the original disk, I was able to see the printing choices I had come to rely on in Windows 7. Happy day. Also, I'm happy to report that after three days of work, including two misguided attempts to uprgade a windows 7 installation with terrible results, I finally decided on a clean install of Windows 10. So far I am pleased with results, one of which is that the boot speed is for all intents and purposes as fast as my previous Windows 7 was. My boot drive is a Samsung 256 ssd drive. This machine, which I built almost three years ago, has 16 gigs of ram, an intel i7 processor, and a 2 gig nvidia Gtx 750 ti graphics card. Not a blockbuster high end rig, but I don't play games, so find this higher middle ground outfit to be for me a blessed sweet spot between performance and price. I think I spent about $1100 on it. I couldn't be happier with it as a robust workhorse for LR and PS which I use on the subscription service. And as long as I'm doling out praise and reports of satisfaction here, let me say that I have been extremely well served by Adobe's technical support over the years I've been a subscriber.

In the last week I have finally (and reluctantly) moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I am using LR 9.1 with with two Canon Pro 100 printers. I have noticed with some consternation that there no longer seems to be a Print Preview option in the Printer set up button and windows. This option allowed me to see how the print would be placed on the paper before committing to printing it. This capability has saved me from making printing errors a number of times, particularly when specifying non-standard print sizes.

Has anyone else noticed this lack of a Print Preview option which used to be there? If so, what gives? Is there a way I can get this back. By the way, I seem to be printing with a Windows 10 driver instead of a Canon driver now. Could this be the culprit, although I see that Canon does not offer a driver specifically for Windows 10 and the drivers on their website last updated in 2016.

Appreciate any thoughts or experience anyone might have on this issue.
