My apologies, these photos are a surprise for his father who is my best friend so they are being staged. I have secured two hours of ice time... So all my equipment will be in the ice, but I'm an amateur at this and this is a first time attempt, however,.I wouldn't ever attempt to use a flash during a game.... that's a big no no. As most everyone knows who had ever been to a high school hockey game in the Midwest... The ice is fast and the lighting is terrible. I have had to take game shots all the way up to ISO 12800 in order to get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the puck. Anyway... That's why I why I was asking about the continuous lighting option with mobile power. Thank you for your input and all your assistance... All your suggestions are helpful and welcome!

I am taking some senior photos of a friend's son who is a hockey goalie. I want to shoot him, in goal, on the ice in a number of different scenarios... Stills, action shots, etc. My question is, what type(s) of continuous lighting (along with mobile power source (s)) would you suggest to give me to get some great shots with my Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon 7D Mark II (for action shots, continuous shooting) with Signa 85mm f/1.4 and Canon L 70-200 USM II f/2.8 lens among possible others. To my knowledge, strobe/flash/speedlight will not cycle quickly enough to allow me to take continuous action shots. I would like to shoot as low as ISO as possible to keep the noise low for the senior portraits. Thank you in advance for your input! Have a great day.

Thank you to all for the wonderful replies. Now we are more excited than ever to be in our trip. We are staying at the LaFonda in Santa Fe and the Historic Taos Inn on old Highway 66.

I am headed to Santa Fe and Taos, NM September 8 thru 13, 2018 to hopefully photograph the Milky Way during the new moon (I live in St. Louis...too much light pollution everywhere) and take in the beautiful sights. Can anyone please offer 1) a safe, easily accessible site in the desert away from the lights suitable for photographing the Milky Way or 2) does anyone know of/if there are there any photograph/ astronomy clubs that meet in those areas that I could contact? Also, any suggestions you have for other side trips would be greatly appreciated and welcome.... So far there are only 2 rounds of golf, Mass at the Cathedral Basilica at the Plaza and a trip to the Taos Pueblo Native Americans. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Bill, I just got mine about 3 weeks ago and I could not agree more!!!!! What an amazing camera and what a learning curve. This camera can duo so much more than my 7D Mark II....and I love that camera...still do for certain applications. But it has been retired for all but those certain situations due to the incredible performance of the 5D Mark IV. I'm still not sure what camera all the Canon bashers are talking about on YOITUBE!!!! :-) Just my humble opinion.....a very happy 5DM4 customer.

I love #3, but the sky looks a little overexposed to me. But that could just be my personal taste...regardless, it is still a beautiful photograph!

Timpass - make sure you have a sturdy tripod to go with that equipment (not mentioned)....then start out in manual with ISO200, f/9 - f/11 and a shutter speed of 1/125 sec. Based on your histogram, color and tone, make f stop and shutter speed adjustments from there (stay above 1/100 sec). Also, something to think about....compose your shot for the moon when it's rising and will appear it's largest in the sky at this time and give you the best chance incorporate additional landscape features. Expose the first shot for the moon and then expose the second, third, ... shots for your surrounding landscape. Then you can stack the shots together in post processing in Photoshop. Another option is bracketing (+/- 2Ev) your moon shots with three shots and stack the shots in Photoshop for a final effect also. Hope this helps and good luck......and teenager the best advice from Mike....reflection of the SUN!! :-) one last thing....don't forget to shoot in MANUAL and RAW @ 300mm.

What a beautiful composition.....colors, balance, topography. I love the deep colors you coaxed out of the shot...what were your camera/lens settings? Im new to this site....perhaps im not looking in the correct location for that information. If so, my apologies for the frivolities Lydia (obscure Charlie reference).
