Great shot for the equipment used.
I like to isolate my subject as much as possible from the background. I picked up your skipper in Photoshop, then darkened the original and dropped the skipper back in.

The ONLY thing that I might have tried is to get the dock out of the viewfinder. It draw the eye away from the fantastic view.
Try for more separation between foreground and background.
I divided the photo on the shoreline and changed the values in the upper half only for a more dramatic effect.
Try a little more contrast in the center and sharpen that area a bit just to bring out the detail. This is a Photoshop redo, sometimes you just have to modify the photos that you are able to get.
This program allows you to work on just the areas that need help and leave the others unaffected.

Try this, I lightened the shadows in Photoshop, but the chin was too deep to do much with. Great Setup. Try blurring just the edges when you drop a photo on a background, and they will look more natural.
