I'll try to make this concise. Nikon D500 with a 200-500 lens. Set on Manual, 1/2500th @ f5.6, auto ISO (2000), Continuous high. I shoot a 5 frame burst at a bird launching from a perch. First frame is shot @ 1/2500th, second frame@ 1/1250th, the third @ 1/5000th, the 4th @ 1/2500th, and the 5th @ 1/1250th. I'm touching nothing but the shutter. Later test shows that the camera will switch around shutter speeds on single shots as well. Anyone have any idea what's going on or do I just have to ship it back to Nikon Service and pray. The camera has not been dropped or abused in anyway.

I've had that same experience with my pocket Lumix DC-ZS70 Camera, I got just before Thanksgiving 2021, when i take photos from the Lumix, it would jump to Bracketing, mode, for some reason i was too close to a button & had to figure out what the Hell is going on? & i discovered the matter & corrected the matter & made Damn sure it didn't happen again!

Last Year i bought a Lumix DC-FZ80 BRIDGE a year ago last April,
the Bracketing System didn't Trip like my pocket DC-ZS70, where i would Accidently come on.

Check your Camera out Throughly,& make sure your Bracket System doesn't come on.

I have 2 pocket Cameras... Canon SX-150, which i got in 2012 & was Stolen from me in November 2021 because of a idiot Security Guard & its Replacement is a Lumix DC Model, which was better & has 20 Megapixels, i got a week after on Amazon.

the Lumix has an fold out rear screen which is good if your taking Selfies, Features that are too long to mention, but for $300 Bills, i got me a good pocket Camera, & for Nearly 2 & half years its done good.

the SX-150 i like because of the Creative Filter features, sadly when my Camera was stolen along with my Backpack & other gadgets, i had nearly 7000 images on a 16GB card, as well as another Card with close to a 1000 images, also with flash drives that i was to Transfer the images to, i don't do Cloud!

Last Year after Easter, i found another Canon SX-150 Powershot on Ebay, paid only $39.00, with tax & shipping & got the Camera in 3 Days, works like a Charm, but the SX150 to me is Cult Camera & done good for me.

Have you looked at the High Speed Negative Scanners, that are Listed at B&H & Amazon?

They Scan Negatives Real Fast, but the Downside, they don't do Slides.

My Favorite Kodak Film was the Ektar, it was Richer & Sharper & it came out the End of the 80's.

I Missed that Film, I Seldom used the Regular Kodak Film Except for the 200, it had Texture, than 100 or 400, & 1000 was too Grainy, I Stuck with Fuji 400 & 800 Speed.

Not if the physical media, your consumer-grade / consumer-written media, has degraded such that no drive can read it any longer. Just keep regularly reading UHH, you'll see the next instance of lost images here shortly.

Oh it's Read the Photo CD's, I was Referred to the DVD Writer by Best Buy & Pro Photgraphers who Reffered me to the Device, I have No Issues with it.

So, you'd already have these images edited if just working on the stored files, rather than researching a hard-to-resolve issue of trying to overwrite the original files on the SD storage.

After every 6 months on UHH, expert resources repeat the idea: physical media is not a long-term storage media. DVDs, CDs, and original camera cards are likely to fail over age. Think of things like 3.5 computer disks. They might still be readable today in 2023, but not if you don't have a drive to read them. Anyone who has bought a new computer probably discovered they don't come with CD / DVD drives any longer. Consider if this 6-month repeat will final convince you to move on from physical media.

You can Buy a CD/DVD Writer at Best Buy, or on Amazon & Hook it up to your Lap or Desk Top & Transfer your Photo Images on Computer from CD Photo, as Well as Music & Video CD.

Thanks for your input.

Yes it probably to old get repaired and not worth the price. That's why I asked for possible fixes.

My other alternative is to get her to use her cell phone camera but there is some resistance.

Thanks again.

Ed

Yeah... that's what I was Told around Easter, when my Canon SX50 fell in the Floor & the Focusing was Acting up & the Gears stopped Malfunctioning & Shut Down the Camera, I Posted on UHH on if there was a Camera Repair Shop that would Repair my SX50 & because the Camera was 9 Years Old & Parts were not in Stock.

The Advise I got from UHH users Posting back to me was to Sell the Camera on eBay for Parts, to a Camera Shop where I could Fix my SX50, to even one who wanted to Sell his SX50 to me.

I instead bought a Lumix DC-FZ80 Package from Walmart Online for under $475.00, which included A Case, Flash/Slave Light, Video Flash, Mini 12 Inch Flex Tripod, A Camera Care Kit, a Damn Good Deal I Ordered the Day After Easter.

So how you do for your Wife is on you, do your Homework on Buying her a Camera, even if it's a Camera Phone.

The S3700 is a small 20MP point and shoot. It takes pretty good images but the one we have seems to have lost its way.

Press the menu button and it asks if you want to delete the image. Press the OK button and it goes to the main camera menu. You can't get to the menu selection side bar to do a reset.

Does anyone know if there is a "hard reset" procedure for these cameras. I have been searching the net to no avail.

Thanks for any help...

Ed

How old is this 3700? & if it's Defect, or Old you may or may not get it Repaired by Nikon.

My Suggestion as you were suggested by other posters on UHH get her a New Camera, Look at Amazon 1st, cause they basically have everything & other camera online Sites.

That's why I keep my SD Cards as Masters & just buy New Ones so I don't have to Delete the Same Card over & over.

Plus... I hear stories that if you Erase or Reformat your DS a lot it could cause some Blow Back for you if you Erase These Cards a Lot to Reuse.

So why are you dealing with them? Can't you download all your manuals to a tablet? That way you avoid being annoyed.

Sometimes your out in the Field & carrying lots of Equipment & a Tablet is the last thing you want to add with your Equipment, if you have a Good Smart Phone that can handle the Data that's Fine, plus you have to Worry about Getting Robbed on the Streets, or Carjacked, look whats Happening in Cities like Chicago, San Francisco, Oakland & Dallas, Etc, I watch these News Clips on Street Robberies where Photographers had their Equipment Stolen at Gunpoint & other Valuable Electronics.

You Figure!

Not meaning to be rude…however, have you read your user manual, because this is a very basic adjustment? If not, give it a try, it will make a much better photographer of you.

The Manual that comes with the New Cameras are Short, All the Camera Manufactures make you download because the Pages are roughly 200 (over or under) & because of Details of every camera Feature.

Since Last Decade New Cameras Sold to Consumers come with Short Basic Instructions, the Rest you have to Download, at one time they came with a CD, but No More.

It's a Pain in the Ass
