👍👍 Excellent suggestions. Another alternative is a gently used Canon 5D MkIII and a EF 70-200 f2.8L MKI or any of the primes mentioned by Paul above if you want to take a shot at full frame.

My first thought exactly!!

Hello fellow hogs, 😁
I’m selling a Canon 600mm f/4 IS v1 for $2,900.
I’ll leave this up for a week before I move it to eBay.
It’s complete with hard case and covers.
I am open to offers.
I’ll add more photos if anyone is interested.
Thanks,

Question..... Am i asking too much? They are going for 3-4000 on eBay without the backpack.
Any feedback would be appreciated. 😁

Tim

If you are not hand holding, you really do not NEED IS. Will you be hand holding ?? !!

LOL maybe 25 years ago. I used my 500 f4 on a monopod with a gimbal head. I really liked that setup.

Hi,
I guess I shouldn’t have suggested that everyone needs IS, but from experience, I know I do. Even on a monopod my tremors get the best of me. :)
Thank you

I have the 5d2, 5d3, and 7d2 besides some rebels.
Another user just corrected me on the in body IS so, I guess I’ll have to just skip a few meals for awhile LOL. On the bright side I have all winter to shop.😁

Hello All,
I’ve been wanting a 600mm since I sold my 500mm f4 IS. I’m on a limited budget, aren’t we all?, and want to spend less than $4k. I know you really need IS for these big lenses and that’s why I was thinking pairing it with a referb. RP or R as they have in camera IS. So, what do you all think? I know the old lens doesn’t have the new features, but I’d get the reach and IS, assuming it works as I believe. Sorry the post is so long just wanted to be clear.
THank you,
Tim

Unless the current Windows "backup system" allows retrieval of individual files, I won't use it.
I got bitten once with "DOS Backup" years ago. The restore was ALL or NOTHING; the backup was compressed and individual files were not retrievable.

My current backup system is a batch file that copies specific directories and files (photos, docs, downloads, PDFs, ...).
I can peruse the backups with Windows Explorer just like the source drive.

But what/how one performs backups is a personal preference.
JUST BACKUP SOMEHOW!
Unless the current Windows "backup system&quo... (show quote)

As a Systems Analyst with 30 years experience, I concur with this method unless you want to get dedicated backup app.

My sincere apologies, I suffered a family loss and had to divert my funds in more important manners, I will have to start saving once more for my personal interest, I was truly interested but due to this unforeseen event I will have to pass-on this opportunity.

Thank you, sincerely

I'm sorry for you loss.
Prayers to you and your family.

Yes, it's a mk I.
The biggest difference is the zoom is a push/pull instead of the normal ring.
You can probably find out more by Googling "Canon 100-400 mkI vs mkII"
Here's a URL to one of the discussions regarding it.

Hi Mark,
Someone asked about it, but it's still available at this time.

IMO, the BEST you can do on a budget is a used Canon 400mm 5.6 prime and the 1.4X II extender. You will need to be using an f8 enabled body to get to 560mm - about $850-900 if you shop hard. Light weight and fast focus !

..

Once you see how sharp the Canon 400 f5.6L is you'll be hooked. The next best is Canon 500 f4L, but that's about $3000-3500 used (if you can find a good one).
I had the Tamron 150-600 and could never get it sharp enough for my tastes even after a trip back to Tamron.
Good luck!
