thank you all. I have gotten rid of the lens. It was for a film camera. I do not have a film camera so gave it to a fella that does.

what do you mean stopping it down manually?

the same thing happens when I try the manual focus. I tried all over outside when the sun was shinning. tried shutting in the shadows, in the bright lite, with the flash and without the flash. I did get it to take a shot at only around 6 ft looking one way on my deck but not the other way. The deck is somewhat shaded. I just went out now to try it. It is 8:30pm and dusky. the flash went up and it worked every time. Must not like the lite. It must be a part time lens. I will keep investigating. I just thought maybe someone had a quick fix. But I know about quick fixes. they are hardly ever there. lol

this is the only lens that I had trouble with. All my others work fine. I will try the web search and see what I come up with. Thanks for the suggestion.

well, it does stop focusing. I have tried it all over outside. In the bright light where the flash doesn't come up and in the shadows where the flash does come up. I tried taking pictures of the top of the trees and the flowers 10 feet away. Close ups only 4 foot away. changed the settings. It just don't want to take a picture outside.

what do you mean the same body? It does not do this with my other lens. I have cannons and a tamron.

here's the picture I just took inside. It is about 12 feet away. I then went out side to try to take a picture and this is what it said....err99 shooting is not possible. turn the power to off and on and to reinstall the battery. which, of course I did. Also I do notice that when I am taking a picture in the house, when I start to take the picture it says busy on the bottom. when I try to take it out doors it never says busy. I also tried to take a picture through the window from the inside and it didn't work either. When I am outside I can hear the lens moving and it doesn't seem to stop clicking.

I have a cannon Rebel xti and got a quantaray 75-300 mm lens. When I try to use it outside it says to put in new batteries. I tried this, put the lens on and off, cleaned the connections. I tried it in the house and it works there. I tried to change the settings on my camera, but that didn't seem to make a difference either. My daughter in law tried it in her camera and it doesn't accept it either. I thought it was supposed to be compatible, but maybe not. Any ideas????

I like the idea of the flying saucers with the tennis balls glued on. It would even offer some support so that the legs don't sink into the sand.

maybe you could cut the fingers off a rubber glove and put on.

yes I know it was general chit chat but still thought that since it was about photography maybe you would have been talking about how to take a picture of a gun not the basic usage of it. Not that I'm against guns. I have a few myself and know how to use them. I may also add that I will NEVER give them up and believe in my RIGHT TO OWN AND BARE ARMS. They are not dangerous if you know how to use them. there are no bad guns just bad people.
