Here's my kit for travel and everyday walk around. Sony a6600 (replacing today with a a6700) Sigma MC-11 EF to Sony E adapter and the Tamron 18-400mm lens. I am losing hope that Tamron will make a Sony E mount version of this lens, but they also have an 18-300mm Sony mount which I might try if the 18-400 wears out. It's small light weight and very capable.

The Tamron 18-400 has been a favorite walk around lens for me light weight and versatile, the image quality is not as good as the 100-400 was on my 7Dmk2 but image quality isn't always critical. In fact, I liked that lens so much I bought the Sony a6600 and now the a6700 so I could use it (adapted EF to Sony E) that setup is on that camera 95% of the time. On my morning hikes although with all the birds coming north, I have had the 150-600 on for better image quality should I see an uncommon bird migrating through. Find a new or used one fast as Tamron no longer makes them.

If your lens has a mounting foot, then you might try a leather pliers holster that fits on your belt. I use one with my Sigma 150-500 — a big, heavy lens — and it works fine. You can pick one up in the tool department at Home Depot or your local hardware store for less than $15.00.

It works best if you have a "sling" type camera strap. All the weight is taken on your belt. See the two photos below.

This idea I like

i would not want to attach the strap to the camera body too much weight hanging off the mount and it swings around all over the place when walking. I have always attached the cross-body strap to the tripod mount. it lets the camera hang parallel to the ground as I hike in search of birds (lens pointed backwards). I have been looking at the Cotton Carrier system lately and may give that a try in the future as I think that may be better for me ergonomically.35yrs in the steel plant does take a toll.

I hold it as steady as I can! When not shooting it would be at my side with a crossbody strap (I prefer the Black Rapid Breathe Camera strap) I used to have a hand strap on my a7mk3 but removed it after thumb surgery because it was getting in the way, I might try it again and see if the healing time has worked.

Nonsense!
Without the mirror the lens mount flange distance can be reduced permitting avoidance of retro-focus wide angle lenses. I have a wide angle lens (80 degree angle of view) for my mirrorless camera that has 0 distortion. Find a similar 80 degree angle of view lens for you DSLR with 0 distortion -- good luck on a fools errand.

The EVFs on my mirrorless cameras provide live-view exposure aids that aren't possible using an OVF. Those live-view exposure aids permit me to nail every exposure with total accuracy. No chimping, no second guessing the meter, no bracketing.

For both those reasons I will not go back to a DSLR.

Exactly After moving to mirrorless, I have taken 50% less shots of the same thing trying to make sure the exposure was correct. Although some of that also comes from me just getting better as I learn this craft.

Vacation or just daily photo walks (I try to do at least 2 miles a day on local trails ) I download all the shots RAW only and than go through and cull out anything I don't think is useable. What is left goes into the Import file. Next I go through and tag the files things such as #birds or #People #location it is while tagging that I delete a lot of my shots that I know I will not want to edit further, in the end I keep between 40 to 50% of original RAW shots . after 2 passes The ones left get backed up to a portable Hard drive, a network Hard drive and weekly to my Amazon Photo Drive. Than once I get down to editing I will cut out even more when I get the shot to full screen and ask my self is it worth the time or not. In the end, I end up keeping about 30% of my original shots. The processed jpgs will be placed into sub files such as UpNorth Vacation, Plants or Birds for easy location in the future.

If in doubt on a image, in the past I have used Walgreens (I get photo emails with discounts all the time) quite often I can get 60% off deals on posters it's not a high quality framing print but it gives me a good indication of how it would look and my elderly parents in the nursing home enjoy the change of pics.

Also if you are using a good quality print lab, they can tell you if your photo will look good when you upload it . I know Nations Photo has told me a couple times that they wouldn't print a couple of pics out of my SX50 as large as I wanted them because it just wouldn't look good! Also, they don't want you to blame them for a bad print instead of blaming yourself for blowing it up that big.
