Just a thought - depending on what you are going to use the drone for, you may not need a Part 107.

I obtained mine but allowed it to lapse as I won't be using my drone commercially in any way.

My understanding is that Part 107 holders have more restrictions that none-holders, based on the theory that the increased knowledge means you are held to higher standards.

Personally I think everyone should have training (for just a out everything, but that's a different topic) as flying a drone can be misused and all or any combination of dangerous, obnoxious, inconsiderate, socially offensive, etc etc.

Obviously, if you are going to be using commercially, then you have no alternative but to obtain your Part 107 certificate.

You can still fly recreationally even after obtaining your Part 107 license.

I have a "DJI Mini 2" and enjoy it a lot. Image quality is always better than expected. That said, the new "DJI Mini 3 Pro" gets impressive reviews.

Maybe watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8MoLNJlvek

I think the Mini 3 Pro will blow away the Mini 2 in terms of image quality.

What is the guy with the beard taking a picture of? His camera is pointed to everyone’s left.

He's taking pictures of a UFO. The other guys missed it because they were all focused (yeah, pun intended) on the bird.

Lesley thanks for hosting “Christmas Past and Present” and Larry for hosting another Free Sunday, a lot of nice photos there on both.

This challenge is about your Best or Favorite photo you have taken this year of 2021.
I have to admit that I do not have any “BEST” photos for this year. But I do have some Favorite’s.
This year I have mostly shot what I call photos of Rebuilding. For some it has been a long struggle since August of 2020.
Even today a lot of property still needs to be finished!
So I ask of you to share your “Best or Favorite” photos of the this year. So that I and others can enjoy.

An advance Thank You to all who contributes to this challenge.

I've done a bunch with my Mavic Mini drone. Three of these were taken with that: fog over the reservoir at sunrise, a shelf cloud taken from 400' up, and a very colorful sunrise. The eclipse picture was a collage of several shots.

Google it, people. One can be made for less than $5.00. With a bit of practice, exposures of 1 second + can be made.
One of these was at 1/2 a second, the other at one second (Times Square temporary Ferris wheel).

What about something like a Joby Gorillapod? They don't want tripods sticking out and tripping people, but I would think something small like a Joby would work if you could wrap it around something sturdy. It's certainly not going to be in anyone's way.

Good Morning Hoggers....

My wife and I are in Upstate Vermont (Burlington) right now and it seems we a "slightly" early the changing of the color for the leaves... We would dearly love to get come "calender worthy" shots of Autumn Scenery...

In the last several days, we have traveled the area of Stowe, coming from Maine, and we are seeing only about 10% to maybe 20% (???) in the coloring...

My question is... We have the ability to go anywhere in Vermont or New York and then south.....

... Can anyone give us "actual current reports" for locations of "full-color change happening right now ???"

Thanks so much in advance for your input and your help

Cheers

Anyone know any secret agent ways to predict firey sunrise/sunsets? Would have loved to have been ready for Manhattan from Jersey yesterday... Magnificent!!!

One trick I've found is that if you have a layer of clouds in the area and it doesn't look like a sunrise or sunset will happen, look toward the horizon. If there's a gap where there are no clouds toward the horizon, the sun may just light up the bottoms of the clouds. Those are the best.

I shoot lots of pictures of wildlife near my home in Indiana. I shot a burst of a deer about mid afternoon on Jan 7th. The first two frames attached here look pretty normal. The next two look like ??? Like the deer is fading from sight and there is what looks like branches or shadows of branches overlayed on the deer. These four frames were a sequential part of a burst from my D7200. BBF, ISO 800, f8,1/800. Can anyone explain to me what happened here?

It's either a deer testing out its cloaking device, or it's shifting to a parallel universe and you managed to capture the moment.

I have a Rebel T6 and multiple AF lenses. I have had no issues with AF. Recently my Dad gave me his old Canon FTB camera and a couple of his old Canon FD lenses from the 70's, a 100-200mm and a 24mm. I haven't shot with this equipment since I was in high school. I got an adapter to use them on my T6. I am having a really hard time getting a good sharp focus. I remember using his camera and the telephoto lens back then but I don't recall having the same issue with manual focus. Could it be a mechanical issue, issues with my vision since I am quite a bit older now or just bad technique? Any advise on how to improve my manual focus skills would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't seen anyone mention adjusting the viewfinder focus with the the dioptric wheel. It's located at the top right side of the viewfinder. First, put the camera on a tripod, then use LiveView to adjust your focus (zoom in 10x if you need to). Switch out of LiveView and look through the viewfinder. Move the dioptric wheel until it's sharp through the viewfinder.

Once you know the viewfinder view is calibrated, you can do what someone else suggested, and what I do: rock the focus knob back and forth and watch to see when it's obviously out of focus. Find those two spots, then move to the center between those two out-of-focus spots.

It gets a lot easier with practice. I've started getting back into using manual lenses, and it takes some definite practice to master since modern DSLRs don't have the old split screen / checkerboard pattern the old SLRs had that made the job so much easier.

Did anyone on UHH capture photos of Mars last night? If so, what settings did you use? I'm asking as a means of learning. I have a Canon sx540 bridge that has an equivalent 1200mm reach but just not sure what to use for fstop and shutter speed. I also have a tripod to help with stability. Thanks for your input.

This morning I purchased this program and used it on only one image as I had other commitments. This particular image I liked except for the noise so which better one to experiment with. I was amazed on two counts, first in how fast it was and secondly in the amazing job it did. My Topaz AI Sharpen is extremely slow but this program was like lightening. Now this is only one image I experimented with so time will tell as I move forward. Also Topaz recommends using Denoise as the first step in your image processing. Enlarge these and see the stunning difference. Now isn't this strange???? The one with the Denoise applied looks purple on my screen until it is downloaded. Let me know if it looks purple on your screen.

The smaller images that are part of your post are different. The second one definitely has a purple look. When I click the download links and look at each image, they appear identical.
