Personally, if you are looking at a mirrorless, I would stay away from the Nikon, which I believe is a technological dead end. Sony, Panasonic or Fuji would be my first choices.

I agree. Both Canon and Nikon have missed the boat on mirrorless. They are each promising the stars for the future, but their past offerings are truly bad.

Does anybody know anything about this memory card,

The Toshiba Flash air is the other card that provides a connection to a wifi to transfer images directly to your cell phone or computer. I have not really tried it, but since it is a Toshiba product, if has a good chance of being worth trying. Others have said that it is superior to the Eye-Fi cards.

Dear U H friends,
I just received my new Nikon D 7200 camera and it wont allow me to transfer my images into my Photoshop Elements 9. I was on Messenger w/ B and H for over an hour and did download the Capture NX-D software. It still will not allow me to import any files, including RAW into P E. I keep getting the message: " Nothing was imported. The files or folders selected did not contain any supported file types. The file is damaged or is a formation that cannot be included in Organizer-NEF.
Somebody please give me hope that I can rectify this. I'm ready to ship the camera back.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

It probably has nothing to do with the camera. Try taking the card out and transferring directly. Go directly through the File Explorer. It doesn't care whether your file is jpeg, raw, tiff or afphoto. Of course there is a slight chance that the whole card format may be screwed up, but your description doesn't sound like it. This is, in all likelihood, a problem of the software on your computer, or the cable. If you have another camera try transfering its files.

That's not to say that a camera can't be bad. Just that I've never heard of anything like this.

I've been shopping for a new laptop which will be used for photo and video editing as well as business use. A deal has popped up on an Inspiron 15 7000 that fits my desired specs and budget. I'm not familiar with their displays, hence my question. The one on this unit is described as: 15.6" IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit FHD (1920 x 1080) Display.

I almost jumped on a deal for a Lenovo Legion gaming machine, but reviews seem to consistently pan the display on that one.....

Also, if anyone has purchased something similar to the specs below and are happy/not happy, let me know!

Core i7-7700 or i7-8550
15.6" screen size
Nvidia 1050 or 1060 graphics
SSD primary and HDD storage

Thanks in advance,

I have a Dell Inspiron I7, 13.4 in screen, only 256gb SSD with 8gb RAM. I do not use it for a lot of post processing, but it has made three trips with me to Mexico and one to Death Valley. I have done some minor PP with it.

On the basis of my experience with this laptop, I purchased a much more advanced Dell desktop that I love. Dell has gone from cobbling together standard parts from any vendor to doing some really advanced engineering of their own.

Hi my name is Angelo, I'm an amateur, needing help on a good camera starting out, willing to spend 1500 dollars to get going, but first, Canon or Nikon. Thanks

Or to make it more complicated: Or Pentax or Sony or Fuji All three are respectable options. CaNik is not the only game in town.

One of my dig cams gets all fouled up when I set it to any other number than the one it was designed to cover. That number is 51,200. Have you done similar experimentation? ... Which ISO has turned out to be right for you? ... Do you change it, or set on Auto and forget it?

I set ISO to a reasonable number for the situation. Mostly 400-800 for day lite shooting. That gives me the widest range of control of aperture and shutterspeed. Shooting inside museums, churches, etc., I have no problem upping to 12,800, picking up minimal noise. Can't remember ever needing ISO higher than that, but maybe I'll do some experiments so time.

I am replacing my old laptop with an iMac with a 27” monitor. The new computer comes with 8 gig of RAM memory. That use to be a lot, but not sure with the current bloatware. How much memory do you recommend for efficient post processing using Photoshop? I have no plans to edit video. “As much memory as you can afford” is not an acceptable answer.
Thanks in advance!

8 Gb of RAM has not been enough for several years.

My current computer has 24gb of RAM and a 256GB SSD for the OS and cache. 8gb video card. It is also the latest Intel I7 8th generation cpu.

(Of course, storage HDs depend on your needs, I have 8 TB on two on-board HDs and two backup USB drives.)

Generally BBF is used with the camera set to servo continuous for subject tracking while the button is pressed, when released the focus is locked as in single servo. So in this case since your subject isn't moving focus using the BB then release it when you've got what you want in focus, if the subject then begins to move press the BB again to continually focus while tracking.

Exactly. Except that I'm using the remote release and so can't press the BB again.

It's not too important as long as I remember that it is a limitation and figure out a work around. Just hoping someone smarter would have solved the problem for me. LOL

Are you saying that when you use the remote the camera refocuses?

No. It refuses to focus. But I get your point. If I focus ahead of time, it should hold that focus. The problem arises when the subject moves and if I were holding the back button, it would refocus properly. If I was using the focus on the shutter release, it would focus correctly. But with BBF it doesn't do either.

I'm on my second factory refurbished D5500 from B&H and still not set.
The first one worked for bout a dozen shots at home, then I was off to the veterans day ceremony for a shoot. I got an error message on the first shot and it never made another picture. B&H promptly replaced it and this one seems to be working fine, except I can't get the exposure bracketing to work. This is a feature I used often on my D80, and I want it. I set it up exactly like a tutorial video shows, but still only one snap. I tried it in aperture and shutter priority modes. Question: Can I have something else set wrong to prevent this from working? I would hate to send it back to B&H and the problem be me. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone else from trying refurbs as many of you have had good luck with them, but if I have to return it I think I'm through with refurbs. Back to the drawing board. RATS!

I don't have an answer but some of the menu items conflict or don't work for various reasons. True on all these cameras. There is just so much going on. You really NEED to buy Darryl Young's book on Mastering the Nikon D5500. I've had similar anomalies on my Nikons and on my Sonys.

I resolved such a problem on a couple occasions by doing a factory reset (It's in the manual), then making one setup change at a time. When it stopped working, I knew I had the key issue.

I've never had a bad "Nikon Factory Refurbished" camera, but all three words are needed (There are third-party refurbishers who are not as good.)

I have been a Lightroom (subscription) user for a few years now. Lately I've been learning (through many videos) about the new Luminar 2018. My impression of it is quite favorable. I think it wouls suit my needs. But I'm not sure. And possible, down the line, it might mean abandoning Lightroom.

I'm looking for opinions from any of you who can, first hand, compare and weigh-in on my thinking.

I'll include a sample of my kind of work. (Unfortunately, after 17 years... Nicodemus is no longeer with us.)

I bought Affinity Photo almost a year ago and really love it. However, it lacks the image management tool. I think it does a better job than Photoshop, especially certain tools. Someone here pointed me to ON1 Photo Raw because of the image management and I really like that. Enough pros are turning to ON1, that I'm going to evaluate it. But I am in love with Affinity's inpainting brush. It is almost magic.

ON1's resizing tool is easily the best on the market. It began as the old Genuine Fractals. I often used it to get great 20x30 and even a few 40x60 prints that looked almost as good as a view camera.

Do jpeg images deteriorate when used as a screensaver on a computer?

No. They are a digital medium. If you repeatedly resave them they will deteriorate because each save throws away data in the compression. But just having it reside on your computer means they are only repeatedly opened, not resaved.

I use a Black Rapid strap. never a problem.

I would also go with Black Rapid. Makes it easy to get the camera up and clicking, but also easy to carry it comfortably and safely. There were questions about carrying a camera by the tripod socket, but that was years ago and I never hear that brought up any more. Seems to have proven out well.

For my Sony alpha cameras, I use Optech. Optech is a little lighter and smaller. The Sonys don't need the larger strap of BR. But the principle is similar.

You're exactly right. Several years ago when I purchased a D7100 it came with a bundle that included the excellent 18-140 as a "kit" lens. That is still one of my favorites.

Exactly. I got an 18-105 on my D90. The lens was very good. It did have a plastic mount and when the camera was knocked to the sidewalk, that broke. But otherwise, the pix were excellent. Then later an 18-140, also a very good lens.
