I also choose not to advertise the type of camera I am using, so I change the strap. Furthermore, I buy a strap (wide because I find them more comfortable) that has a metal line through it to make it less likely that someone can come up behind me and cut the strap and run with my camera. There is not much I can do if someone wants the camera enough to club me over the head and take the camera.

Straps that conceal steel wires with the intent to stop a "cut snd run" are dangerous. A thief will not know there is a wire until his blade hits it. What do you think could happen when someone is that close to you with a knife in hand?

Better to lose a camera than anything else.

Insurance is important but would also important to buy camera and camera bag straps with steel cable wires in them. One way they take your equipment is cut your strap with a sharp knife and grab and run. They also have one person cut and the other grabs. This can be fixed by, I went to B&H bought camera and bag straps with the steel cable for about twenty five bucks each.

The serious issue with cables in straps is that a thief does not know the cable is in the strap. The last thing I would want is to grapple with a thief wielding a knife as the cable holds. Better to let the equipment go than chancing loosing something more valuable (you life).

Here is an excerpt from a blog I wrote when I was manufacturing BosStrap Camera straps:

Embedded Wire in Camera Straps

I am often asked if BosStraps have an embedded wire in the body strap. The short answer is NO and we never will.

Some sling strap manufacturers claim that the embedded wire in their strap will help protect your equipment from a cut-and-run thief. Some have even offered cash compensation if you lose your equipment to a thief.

The problem with embedded wires is that a thief does not know there is a wire in your strap until his knife blade hits the uncuttable wire. At this point, you become aware that someone is attempting to steal your camera, and that someone is at your back with a knife. This is not a situation with a pleasant outcome...

In the fall I will be travelling to Italy. I'll be spending a couple of days in Naples. Based on all that I read, Naples is not a safe place to carry a camera bag. Has anyone experience with purchasing insurance covering an all-perils claim with zero-deduction for 1 month (or one trip)? My homeowners insurance (Progressive) does not offer zero deduction claims. Total value of camera equipment is approximately $2500. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice. Tom Fama

My camera links to my phone to pick up the GPS coordinates. I always have my phone with me and a charger if I'm afraid of running out of battery. I also find that it really doesn't have a negative effect on the battery on the phone so it works pretty well. I have had several cameras that had built in GPS, but I found it took them longer to get lock in after turning on and it used more battery.

My travel camera is a Sony RX-10 iii. GPS is the only feature I really miss. Will you provide some details as to how you setup your phone to provide location information? I use an Android phone. Thx. TF

I use Backblaze. They provide continuous backup and unlimited space for a reasonable price ($60/yr). The initial backup may take one or two weeks, but this happens in the background. After that it is totally seamless. About 3 years ago I had a hard drive failure. Backblaze sent a new 4 GB hard drive with all my files. They offer you a choice: You can copying the files and return the hard drive for about $60, or keep the hard (which I did) for about $200. The current prices may be different. I never had an issue with them and highly recommend you check out backblaze.com

Let me try to be clearer. Currently when I email from lightroom what appears in the email is a picture. Before when I emailed, files would be attached (like airplane.jpg) was sent. The would be no picture displayed, only the file name as an attachment that the receiver could click on to open the picture.

At one time I could e-mail a file like airplane.jpg. Now what is e-mailed is the image (photo) of the file (airplane).

I use LR6 (stand alone) with Outlook 2007. At one time I was able to email photo files, not images through Outlook 2007. Somehow I lost that capability. Now when I want to email a photo file, it will only email an image of the file which is embedded in the e-mail. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance. Tom Fama

In 2016 I purchased a Sony RX10 III because I was tired of carrying my Nikon D500 while travelling. Since I first bought it, it has become not only my travel camera but my go-to camera. It fits my needs so well, I am considering selling all my Nikon equipment! Follow the advice of a6k and rent one. You'll be a convert.

Thanks. I got out more than whole. I decided to close BosStrap because I want to retire. The whole eight years was a wonderful experience. Now it's time to return to woodworking, photography, reading and biking.
