Yes, with a mirrorless, it is a lot easier. The LCD is a WYSIWYG display. (What you see is what you get)

All that is necessary to do is to adjust the settings until the LCD shows exactly what you want.

My process was Nikon D750 on tripod with Nikon 200-500mm at 500mm, AutoFocus set to Manual, use live view on tilt screen and zoom all the way into the moon it covers the whole screen and you only see half the moon. the Live Preview on a D750 shows the actual exposure in the live view (WYSIWYG), so adjust the ISO=100, Shutter=1/200 and F8 to start and adjust Shutter up/down till appropriately exposed. Get the focus sharp (it wiggles all over but you can really nail it with the preview exposure and zoom in live view. Then let the whole tripod/lens settle down (takes about 3-5 seconds) then use the remote shutter and take the photo. I don't think most Nikon DX cameras have the preview in live view. Also had to increase ISO at full eclipse and Shutter down to 1.6 seconds. Then photoshop them individually into one composite. Bag acts as extra weight on tripod and it was right in the front yard so Ring doorbell 'protected' it while I watched tv and only came out every 15mins to take the phases.

Took photos about every 15 mins (other when full blood for an hour) and composited them together.

I am going to attend the performance on New Year's Eve. My question is, do they allow flash pictures. I can't find the answer. Thanks in advance.

I didn't use flash when we went last summer, here is an example 1/60, 120mm, f4, ISO 2800. This is from the top row of the seats.

Can you provide the name of the App? I want to use it on my iPad Air2. I couldn't find it in the store.

The issue is that WMU app is an iPhone app and on the iPad, that app store search defaults to 'iPad only' apps. You should click on "iPad Only" in the upper left and change to "iPhone Only" after the search and you can see it. iPad will run almost all iPhone apps but if they are not universal or iPad specific, you get the 'large' iPhone display.

I would like to create a photo map of my travel adventures/location. I was hoping something existed that models Google Panaramio (or allowed me to display only my photos).

I did my obligatory Google search and their own forums with limited success. I could not find any option to use the Google feature and tag or limit the dispaly to only my photos. Does anyone have a suggestions or may know of 3rd party software that offers this.

I did see some discussion that one can embed photos into Google Earth using Picasa ... but I need to explore that further.

See [u=http://www.panoramio.com/map/#lt=38.066066&ln=-87.931770&z=14&k=2&a=1&tab=1&pl=all]Google Panaramio [/u]

I have 45 photos in Panoramio and when I'm looking at my photos, only my photos show with the tag in the map, and only my photos are listed on the right. However, within the small map, other's photos do appear. Guess you cannot prevent other photos from showing in the map but it doesn't provide a map to all your photos. My link is in my signature.

Or are you looking for privacy that you can prevent others from seeing your photos? Your photos are public on Panoramio. You also can include photos that are not selected for google earth (inside or with people in them) but they will still show in your list of photos and tagged to the map if you have coordinates in EXIF.

Jeep for Larry, Thanks for the tip for posting photos on UHH. Will give it a try.
I must say that I have achieved some really excellent results processing my JPEGs with Nikon's View NX2 free software. The camera produced JPEGs are not that good. I find myself always tweaking the JPEGs with View NX2. I tried using View NX2 on a couple of NEF files but I found myself way over my head. I'll stick with Lr. Can I assume that JPEGs can be processed with Lightroom as well?? -FiddleMaker

You can use Lightroom to edit JPG files but it really shines in editing the raw files. The white balance correction is basically unlimited in a raw file but much more constrained in a jpg. Just search withing UHH or even globally on raw Vs Jpg and you'll see that raw editing is the way to go unless you need immediate jpgs to share before you can process.

Jeep for Larry, I also have the D750 and I will experiment with high ISOs. I have been using 200 to 500 but I should try some higher ISOs to avoid using a flash (Nikon SB-700).
I have some really nice looking close-up photos when viewed on this Dell 27-inch XPS computer but when I upload them to UHH for the Gallery and view them they look horrible. All the fine detail is gone.
I am now learning how to use Lightroom 5.7. Just loaded it last week. Could not resist a new copy at $50.
I paid almost $100 for 2 by 32GB SD cards. (I see you got one as a free-bee). I have RAW(NEF) going to card #1 and JPEGs going to card #2. I had to do it that way because at my age my brain (what's left of it) does not function if both JPEGs and NEFs are on the same card. -

If you want the full detail to be available in UHH, you would have to click on the Store Original check box to have the full resolution file uploaded. Then there will be a 'download original' link available on your photo and it will be the full resolution file.

Lightroom is critical to making my raw files come to life and also control those areas that are darker or lighter then I'd want. I have a couple user presets that I created where I found myself almost always putting in a little sharpening to about 48, a little vibrance, clarity and saturation, and the lens correction. I use a little less saturation and vibrance when photos have people in them, thus the two presets. I actually switched over to just raw files with the D750 as I found myself liking the processed files much better than the jpgs that the camera was producing.

Jeep for Larry, I just picked up my D750 and the AF-S 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 ED VR lens last Saturday. I still have my D7000 with 18-105mm kit lens. Took some photos of the same subject with both cameras but could not see any difference when viewed on my Dell 27-inch HD computer.

Well, after a month with the new D750 I am THRILLED with my purchase. I am amazed at the 'depth' of detail the D750 produces. I am also liking the great hi ISO. I am taking photos at 12800 ISO and they are very little grain. I even did some testing at 51200 ISO and could get by at that if I had a situation that called for high shutter in low light.

I tell my wife and family all the time, "I love my D750."

For anyone still watching this topic, I decided. Brown truck with new D750 with 24-120mm F/4 should be here in a couple days. Even got extra Nikon battery and 32gb SD card with it, no extra cost.

Food for thought. If you are shooting sunsets make sure you get the latest release. I bought mine Jan 3rd and it flares around the sun. I sent it back and still waiting for a replacement. Nikon stopped making them and are just now issuing the new release. The Kit I got was with the 24-120mm. As of today that kit is expected in this week. After using it a little I think I would prefer the 28-300mm.

I haven't ordered yet but I think Adorama is only delivering the new releases. I have analyzed my EXIF from my D5200 photos and I only use 200mm about 6% of the time but 18mm over 27%. I will probably start with the 24-120mm.

Good for you Larry....

One of the main reasons as to the Why photographers stay with any given brand or make of camera IS for the fact that you have mentioned. NOT outside of "Loyalty" to a brand. For instance:

I have two Canon 5D Mark II's - a 7D - and an old XTi that is converted to only IR.

Most of my lenses are Canon and or Canon mountings - These lenses range from an 8mm "fish-eye" to a Tamron 150-600mm Telephoto. That is my reason that I have bought Canon and it is most likely the Why Nikon and Sony shooters keep with that brand. Anyone who begins "collecting" lenses soon finds that the lenses out cost the camera about twice as much. (i.e.= my Canon 5D Mark II with a 24-105mm lens, was only 2,600 U.S.D. // The 70-200mm 2.8 cost about twice as much as the camera body alone).

The camera is a "box" where the Photographer puts into it his images that later can, in post-editing, convey their FEELING as to what they saw at the moment of capture. With me, as well as other "artistic photographers", it IS that "something" that is Built up from within - rather than extracted from outside.

Am I "preaching to the choir" here ;-)

Pardon my "Soap-Boxing".

I had the same question with my D5300, great Camera, about moving to FX. I did and was I thrilled to tears with the D600. Of course I just had to move again to the D800E @ $1500.00. At 36MP my DX photos could not begin to compare to the ones I get with the D800E or the D600. So yes make the move to FX. It's a real thrill. There is a reason they label the D750 an Entry Level Pro Camera.
And remember a smaller DX sensor is still a DX.
