Nikon's been making bodies in Thailand for years. I have a 15 yr old D70S that was made there. They may be stopping body production in Japan, but the Thailand thing has been around awhile.

When Leica started partnering with Minolta, there were purists that screamed bloody murder over the decision. You would have thought the end was near. Same thing when Zeiss/Contax did the same with Kyocera and Yashica. All parties are alive and well.

Though, admittedly this is a little different - they aren't partnering with anyone. They are just expanding production in one locale while stopping production in another.

Now, for the reasons - the cost of living in Japan is 300% higher than the US - so in an effort to deliver the quality goods they have always done, and now that Thailand has gotten it's act together - they are confident that there will be no negative impact - other than from the occasional Canon shooter that sees this as a bad omen -

I agree with Gene. As long as specs are the same it make no difference where they are made. Not a one of my Nikon products that I own were made in Japan but perform as advertised.

Put it on Auto first, then play with your settings (A and S) and then learn when you have time. Excellent camera. Make sure you record RAW. I am not sure what the factory settings are but they will not ruin a shot. Try out both lens and enjoy the camera.

PhotoShop Document (PSD) will forever be a viable file, especially in Adobe applications. They are big, but any edit I do in PS is saved back to LR as a PSD. It gives me the ability to employ newer technologies as they come available. I love the format.

Thanks,

Any photo that I do extensive work on it is saved as a PSD. This last one I did a lot of saving and was just concerned that I was losing some data during the save but that is not the case.

Is a comparison of degradation in various file formats. PSD is close to TIFF, little or no loss.

That's what I thought but was just checking

Thanks

I have done some work on a photo from raw and saved it to a PSD file. From there I have made many changes using layers. Question is does it retain it original quality or does repeated saves in a PSD file reduce the data such as saving a JPEG file?

If you read the manual, it says that the pop-up works in mode "Auto, Portrait, Children, Close-up, Night Portrait, Night Landscape, Pets and another icon I can't read". There are also 4 of the 5 "Flash Modes" where the flash will pop-up. The implication is that the flash will NOT pop-up in other situations. It only guarantees the flash will not pop up if the flash mode is OFF or an external flash is attached. So I think we are all victims of Nikon trying to do the right thing. The thing to do in that situation is to change the mode to see if this is correct.

I was not clear in how I use the pop-up. I only use Aperture, Shutter, Manuel or rarely Program modes. When in those modes you have to manually pop the flash by using the button on left side of camera just below the flash. I only use the on board flash as a commander if I use multiple speedlights. When I pushed the button it would click but the pop-up would no come up. When I took off the cover and put it back on the pop-up started working as it should.

Okay, I know my 7100 isn't your 7200, but this couldn't be the flash won't pop up if you haven't turned the power switch on?

Correct the camera must be on.

Without being able to get to my 7100 , I think it only pops up in either P mode or Auto

It can be opened in any mode by pushing the button on the side.

I took off the cover and looked at all the connections which seemed to be as they should. Re-installed the cover and now it works as it should (for now). I guess reseating the cover did the trick.

Thank to all for you help.

I dropped my D7100 and the flash pop up now acts as yours does. Did someone drop your camera?

I never the use the pop up as I always use my speedlight so I haven't bothered getting it fixed.

I might have banged it around. We were in Washington DC last month and it was around my neck in the subways and buses so who knows what I bumped into.

Like you, I do not use the pop-up as a flash but use it often as a commander to fire off my speedlights.

Thanks for the reply

Thanks, I will try this later today.

[quote=Spider223]Here’s a YouTube video, different camera model, shows your problem (I think).

https://youtu.be/_d7j9GbaEXM

Possibly dirt/dust making the clearances too close?

Another thing, sounds weird, but I bought a hot shoe plastic insert, covers the contacts on the hot shoe, and looked nice (I don’t have an external flash). I gave one to my brother, and it fit his canon perfectly, but with it in, his flash would no longer pop up, as it apparently thought an external flash was attached. ...

Thanks for the reply
I have tried the squeeze as mentioned in the video and it works on the D7200. I do not have a hot shoe cover on and a the entire flash area has been been thoroughly cleaned.

Sounds like a minor adjustment is in order by the factory.

Have you tried a reset on the camera?

I have a problem with the pop-up flash on my Nikon D7200. When I push the button to raise the flash it will just click and the pop-up will not pop-up. I can “force” it up by pushing the button and using my finger nail to lift the flash and it works as it should. Infrequently times it will pop-up as normal but mostly not. I have made sure the mechanism is clean, made sure the screws are tight and nothing looks to be out of alignment. I primarily use it as a commander, so it is not a big problem.
Any suggestions before I send it to Nikon?

Thanks Dennis,

I took the liberty to pass this on to some of the fellow vets I know.
