Having spent most of my life working as a Mechanic, I love
classic old American cars & Motorcycles.

I took these back in the 90s in our towns main street.
A lot of very nice people show up with our without cars.

Here are a couple of our car, a 1968 Pontiac Executive

I was on the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico in Gulf Shores, AL just prior to sunset. My intentions were to shoot the Snow Moon rising in the eastern sky. It was a great weather evening and the beach was entertaining several people - as well as birds. I was close by a fisherman who was catching several fish, but not big enough to be keepers, so he was tossing them back into the ocean.

The moon was not up yet and the sun not yet set - the light was golden; as I glanced in the fisherman's direction, a Great Blue Heron had dropped by and he snagged one of the fish being tossed back. I was in a good (lucky, more probably) position to shoot the scene and I was able to document the entire sequence - from catch to final gulp. I have shot hundreds (maybe even more) images of the Great Blue, but this sequence is one of my best - not so much for the photography, but the scene that unfolded in my presence.

Hope you enjoy seeing it half as much as I did shooting it.

Nice Catch!

Outstanding catch - you, not the eagle; I'm sure his catch is more ho-hum than yours.

Yesterday we got our first snow of the season, 3-4 inches, wet and heavy - but beautiful. The best thing about it is that today all roads and walkways are clear and dry.

I was visiting my daughter (recently moved to the Indianapolis area) and had a little over half a day on my own. With this time I scouted the local parks for photo ops and found this park's website and decided to spend the afternoon there. As you can tell from the photos, I was there well past prime foliage season, but saw enough that I definitely want to get back there when the leaves are in their prime fall foliage. This is a really nice park with lots of trails, water features, and quite a few spots to pull off the road for photo ops without too much hiking (for the less healthy). I was there on a weekday with school in session and I found the park to be very lightly used so I pretty much had little to no trouble getting to photogenic spots. It would have been a great visual experience, even without a camera, but I'm glad I took mine with me. There is a fee to enter the park, but I found it well worth the price of admission.

Found this guy in Gulf Shores AL February 2016. He sat patiently for a good bit and allowed plenty of portraiture work before getting antsy and taking off. I was fortunate to have my eye in the viewfinder when he did.

I spent a night in Springfield IL earlier this month and took advantage of the time to stroll around downtown by the State Capitol building just at and after sunset. Just a few shots documenting the place and the night.

I was out at the local zoo taking animal portraits fr my camera club's monthly activity. As I was shooting the giraffe, I noticed he (she) was sticking his tongue out every now and then. Each time I saw the tongue come out I started shooting in continuous mode, several frames/sec. When I got home and reviewed what I had, I found this keeper. Not the best technical shot I ever took, but the action captured is priceless. I had never seen this before.

I was in Gulf Shores AL Jan and Feb this year and as I always do, I was in search of any kind of bird who would sit still or fly by such that I could try to get his (her) photo. I am trying to include all the different species I shot this winter - with a couple of specie repeats. Hope you enjoy these as much as I did hunting and finding.

Went out birding with a few friends this morning in the Gulf State Park near Gulf Shores, AL. We found a fairly friendly blue heron that posed for us a while. I was focused on him in his standing position when I noticed he was ready to go. I was already set for action photography with continuous shutter release and AI Servo (Canon) focusing, so I held down the shutter and tried to follow. Here's what I ended up with (4 shots) before he disappeared behind a red plastic fence. Each photo was cropped a bit.

Went "bird hunting" night before last and found a couple of active pelicans, here are a few from that shoot, if you check really close you'll see that one of these guys has several inches of fishing line caught in the upper portion of his beak, you can see it around his head - especially noticeable in the last photo. Check the download, especially the last one - shows the fishing line clearly flying in the breeze.

:-) Everyone here always seems to come up with such workable ideas. I will be looking closer at that Manfrotto lens support, and if I find anything else that will work I will be sure to post it for everyone on the forum to know. Thanks everyone for your interest and input.

Did you ever find a workable solution? I looked closely at this Manfrotto 293 and it appears that the front mount and strap would be positioned in contact with the rotating barrel (I also am using the Tamron 70-300mm lens). I don't see how this could work; maybe someone can enlighten me
