Cleaning the focus sensor? I never thought about that! I just do the image sensor.

Thanks

I could be wrong but I don't think it's an easy thing to do because of it's location.

There's a calibration mode with high end Canon battery chargers. My 1DIV has that and according to what I've read, this can extend the life. The calibration mode also allows a more accurate reading when charging and replenishment in future incidences. I've only had to use it once in the last 5 years and it automatically went into the mode once the batteries were inserted into the charger.

I've had a Canon 1DX Mark II for over two years and have had to calibrate one of the batteries once after it was showing only two green bars. The charger that comes with the camera is listed at $349.00 and the batteries are $163.00. This is the first Canon camera that I have bought with this feature. Before I'd throw out the baby with the bath water I'd check to see if this is also available for Nikon batteries too. At the price of these new batteries I sure hope they last longer then the LP-E6N, some of which are five years old.

I have all Nikon bodies and Glass , no problems. Don't know why it would be any different with Canon, (Operator error is my guess) My son in law is a teacher and I use the school gym or the halls for the bigger glass. Personally I found it to be so easy to use. I use a 25' tether, available at B&H. The laptop sits alongside the tripod on a custom table I made for doing my on location architectural drawings. The target is taped to a wall and I just move the tripod and laptop to the required distance for each lens. I have in the past when the school wasn't available, used malls that open early for joggers/walkers. Even my neighbors garage which is opposite mine across street. Camera in my garage and target in neighbors, throw a light on it and Viola!

The program will work with Nikon cameras but you have to make the changes manually on Canon. It will still work but a bit lower.

If you use FoCal software to fine tune, you can always save the numbers within the software.

Thanks. I always wanted to try FoCal but friends that have bought it never could get it working right. Part of that could be because they were using Canon cameras and they had to manually work the program. The hang-up I have is that you need to be tethered to a laptop when doing checks on 300mm through 600mm. I just couldn't use my PC because I don't have the space to set up the required distances. I also read all the reviews and that caused me to stop and think.

Clearing browser history and cookies is a great practice to get into, but unfortunately is not very effective if the software has already been dropped on the system, as some root kits will just check to see if the browser cache has been cleared, and make changes when needed. Safe web surfing practices, staying up-to-date on all software security patches, are key to preventing it.

Nope. But do be cautious about hijack or ransom malware. Those may claim you must do this or that. Do you have a working anti-virus / anti-malware program running?

Thanks to all. I do have an anti-malware program running and it's "Webroot and it does warn me. Do to the way that I have been bothered , a lot lately, is I can't just click on the "X" because it's covered up and I have to shut down all programs to get to it. It's just a pain in my a**. They just don't give up. I'm thinking of trying "Malwarebytes" and see if it works any better. Thanks again.

Invariably when I access this site I get an orange warning in the upper left-hand corner that says it from Windows saying several things. First is that my subscription to McAfee has expired and after I clear that I get another that says that my files are corrupt. Most of the time as I am signing out of the UHH I get a full page warning from Webroot saying that this is not a safe site. Is anyone else having any similar problems with this site?

Thanks Rich, I have 4 bodies and 6 lenses. It would be a lot easier to actually find out which button I had inadvertently pushed or changed then it would be to have to Fine Tune 6 lenses again from scratch. Thankfully I use Lens Align with their software and do have a print out for each body and corresponding lens.

That looks good but the fact that it does not back up "Fine Tune" is troublesome. If you have 4 or 5 lenses there's a lot of time and work involved doing a redo unless you record all your results elsewhere. To do a reset of the camera would be the last resort.

Bob, do you use only the installed software for editing or other added software? The reason I ask is a friend just bought the 27" iMac and says that he needs no other PP software.

Looking for some advice, when choosing a photo for a photo contest, art show, etc.
What is the best way to have your photos printed?

What's the best way to have your photos printed is the question I believe your asking. It may depend on the preset requirements put forth by those hosting the contest. A long time ago many contests required an "F" surface paper. You will not be putting any copyright or name on your prints. Check the entry form and follow it to the letter. Good luck with your endeavors.

For a long time I have been trying to determine the best lens for photographing hummingbirds in flight. I own a lot of lenses and I have been brute force trying every lens I own to see which one worked best.

This is a very complex issue and I'm convinced almost any lens will work, but some work better than others.

I used an on-line DOF calculator to help decide which of my existing lenses would work best for me. Another important factor is how fast can a given lens focus and track focus. I decided of all the lens I own that the "Sony 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 G SSM" set at 135mm, would work the best for me. Your mileage might vary.

Today I took a few photos with that lens and pulled out all the stops in post processing. I like the photo a lot. I hope you also like it.

I have been an avid photographer since 1964. These days, if I could not edit my digital photos, I would have little interest in photography.

I started in 1954 and couldn't agree more with you! It over all didn't make a lot of difference going from a simple box camera to a Hasselblad either, composition , focus and exposure were the name of the game. I thought I was downtown Charlie Brown when I built my first darkroom and could dodge and burn. Shooting weddings for over 25 years on film was an eye opener. I now wish that I could have been using a digital camera for all of those 25+ years. I learned negative retouching and selective developing along the way. Digital is a combination of photography and art aided immensely by computers and software. I could be wrong, have been more times then right, but true unedited results can best be made on film do to the automatic editing that a digital camera does in house. Maybe here on the Hog there could be a section for those that wanted to display unedited shots, could be interesting.
